By Mike Daley

The club’s annual tour to Provincetown took place on the first Saturday in May.

We had over 20 cars make the trip. We had three of our newest members take this run with us. Many of the usual suspects were in the crowd this year.

We welcomed

three of our newest members along for the run. Jeff Oaks, Steve Ellis and Ed Gavin joined us in three nice LBC’s. Jeff

helped make Triumphs rule the day with his Spitfire. Steve and Ed added a great pair of Bugeyes to our group.

We took just about the same course as

we used last year. We have dubbed this route the Historic Houses and Harbors Tour. We stay to the north and west

sides of the cape and travel along Cape Cod Bay on this run. There are lots of twisty roads with cranberry bogs,

beaches, ocean views, stone walls, cedar trees and splendid houses along the way.

The morning began with a gathering

over coffee and goodies at the West Barnstable Village Store and Restaurant. After a look at Barnstable Harbor we

took a stroll out the boardwalk at Bass Hole in Yarmouth Port. We toured the north side of Dennis viewing Chapin

Beach and two more harbors.

Moving further out the cape, we made a stop at the craft show that was part of the Brewster In Bloom weekend. Our

next stop was lunch at the Bookstore Restaurant in Wellfleet. Our route from Brewster took us through

Orleans where we saw Rock Harbor and then through Eastham. We took a view across Wellfleet Harbor from

Indian Neck before we stopped for lunch.

We took the back roads of the national park from Wellfleet through Truro

visiting Pamet Harbor and Corn Hill as we made our way to the Truro Vineyards. We tasted a lovely wine they

call Triumph as part of the visit at the vineyard. After a lovely tasting in the warm sun, we headed into Provincetown.

Once in town we stayed at the Provincetown Inn.

This year we all went out to dinner together. Seventeen of us enjoyed the

great food and special ambiance of Napi’s. The dinner was a fine topping to a good day of driving fun in the summer like sun.

Thanks to June for all of her help. Thanks to Paul, Charlie and Mike and Pam for their contributions. The plans for next

year have already started.

2010 CCBCC Annual MeetingEditor’s Note: This Annual Meeting story also doubles as our new President’s, Bill Scott,

President’s Boot.

We have just held our annual meeting and have elected new officers for the coming year. I somehow have become the new

president. Taking immediate responsible action, the meeting was held on May 8th and I left the country on May 9th for a

long planned trip to Ireland. Luckily for the club, we have elected a responsible set of officers that will keep things going while I am away. They are Frank Frett, Vice

President / Mike Daley, continues as

WE HAD A GOOD TURNOUT FOR THE MEETING AND A SUCCESSFUL ELECTION. I LOOK FORWARD TO FUTURE COMMENTS ON THIS “BOOT” AND FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT OF THE CCBCC.

Treasure / Rick Finlay, continues as Clerk. The BoG has added by appointment, Bob

Vogle, as past president while newly electing; Art Cox, Dan McGovern and Bruce Turner. Remaining on the BoG are;

DEAR READER,

THIS IS THE LAST EDITION OF MY OCCASIONAL COLUMN.   NEXT MONTH WE WILL HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT TO WRITE FOR YOU.

I WAS SO HONORED TO BE NOMINATED AND ELECTED AS PRESIDENT TWO YEARS AGO THAT I FORGOT TO TURN IT DOWN.   THAT FIRST YEAR WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE, AS I HAD TO LEARN HOW EACH EVENT ON THE CALENDAR WAS PLANNED.   THE SECOND YEAR WAS EASIER.

FOR THE NEXT AND FUTURE PRESIDENTS I HAVE SOME ADVICE:

DON'T IMMEDIATELY ANSWER ALL EMAILS ADDRESSED TO THE OFFICERS AND BOARD. A LOT OF THE TIME ONE OF THE OTHER BOARD OF GOVERNORS WILL ANSWER THE QUESTION;

IF YOU DO ANY PLANNING, DO NOT ASSUME THAT ANYONE WILL REMEMBER THE DETAILS OR EVEN THE OVERALL GIST OF THE MATTER. BE PREPARED TO REPEAT YOURSELF;

IF THERE IS AN EMAIL DISCUSSION AMONGST BOARD MEMBERS ABOUT A TOPIC AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONSENSUS, GO WITH IT.  DON'T ASK FOR A VOTE;

LISTEN TO THE TREASURER.

TREAT THE ACTIVE MEMBERS WITH CARE.  YOU HAVE TO STAND UP IN FRONT OF THEM AT MEETINGS;

ORDER A MUSHROOM AND PEPPERONI PIZZA FOR ME AT THE MEETINGS.

HAVE SOMETHING OF INTEREST TO THE CLUB? LET US KNOW!

We are always looking for stories for the Newsletter. Or maybe you have a good idea for a regular feature, a great picture of your car or something of interest you might have seen somewhere else. Send any and all suggestions to [email protected]

Charlie Bohm, Dave MacEachern and Kevin Thompson. A surprise vote also elected Berta Rousseau as Secretary

and chief minute taker. We continue to have a competent group of officers serving the club and a continuing active group of loyal members ready for

another year of fun and events.

Recognitions were made to all those leaving office and the BoG who have

really given much to the club during the past years with their personal effort, ideas and support. We thank them for

all they have done for our club. Bob Vogle was recognized for his service during the past two years as president by presenting him with a jacket

emblazoned with the CCBCC logo. We also recognized by presenting a certificate to four members who were

leaving their terms on the BoG, they are; Paul Hinchcliffe, Brian Nickerson, Rick Poole and Paul Frink. We thank

everyone for their current and past service.

Our Annual meeting was held at the West Wareham Elks Lodge as they

generously offered the use of their

meeting room to our club. Thank you Elks Lodge #1548 and to Paul Hinchcliffe a fellow Elks member for

the arrangement.

We had a good turnout for the meeting and a successful election. I look forward to future comments on this “Boot” and

for the opportunity to serve as president of the CCBCC.

Till then,

Bill Scott

10. JULY 10TH: HERITAGE ANNUAL CAR SHOW, SANDWICH

Bright and early on Saturday May 15, a small group of dedicated Little British Car enthusiasts gathered at Paul Hinchcliffe’s house in Lakeville, MA to participate in the

annual Safety Fast Inspection and Coney Island Hot Dog Fest. A few years ago, Paul initiated this as a “tech session” event, using (with his blessing) Rick Smith’s extensive and thorough Safety Fast Inspection Checklist which he had

created some years ago for the New England MG ‘T’ Register, Ltd. Each year the invitation goes out primarily to MG ‘T’ Series and MGA owners, although other marques

have always been welcomed and encouraged to attend. This year’s “inspectors” were Paul Hinchcliffe, Art Cox, and Frank Fret (a Triumph owner with a heart of gold). The tasks were

split with Paul marshalling the owner(s) to record inspection details on the form and Art and Frank tag-teaming under the bonnet. Each inspection takes between twenty and thirty minutes, and the inspections have never

gone smoother.

However, the first order of business was to revive the latest LBC treasure in the vast Hinchcliffe collection. In this case

the LBC was a Little Bitty Craftsman riding lawn mower with a fried ignition system. Fortunately, Paul had been able to procure the (insanely overpriced Sears) parts, which

followed Sir Joseph “Prince of Darkness” Lucas philosophy

of operation simplicity. The air gap was to be set using the thickness of the paper upon which the installation directions were printed! And so be it. Anyway, and probably to

everyone’s utter amazement, it started right up, smoked a tad (in proper vintage British fashion) and purred like a kitten with sleep apnea. Thence, it was parked in line along with its distant LBC relations. As an aside, no, we didn’t

check the headlights, and, no, we don’t think it should be motored about after dark.

Next on the list was to try and trouble-shoot a rattle

somewhere in John and Gayle Sands’ MGA that had frustrated them for a number of months. While Art was under the dashboard, Fretless Frank discovered the culprit

in the engine compartment. It turned out to be that the rear carburetor overflow tube was vibrating against the steering column. This would probably have been picked up during the Safety Fast Inspection, but who knew? Although, if this

wasn’t bad enough, should that carburetor have overflowed, the petrol would have streamed directly onto the exhaust pipe! All it takes is a little thing like that to ruin one’s day.

Upon observing - for comparison - how these tubes were fitted on the other attending MGAs, it was learned that they, too, were variously screwed up (can we say ‘variously’

in a family publication like this?). At any rate, with a great

2010 Safety Fast Inspection Day by Paul Hinchcliffe and Art Cox

deal of bending and re-routing, all of this foolishness was put right so as to avoid the risk of any LBC explosions

that might otherwise be blamed on some poor, unsuspecting terrorist. Oh, boy, I can hear it now: “that’s it, we can blow up the city with LBCs and nobody

will be any the wiser!”.

Moving right along, with respect to the actual inspections themselves, all of the

cars that went up on the lift were returning ‘customers’ from previous years and improvements were noticed.

If we were giving out prizes (which we weren’t – and never will, so don’t hold your breath), Ellen Riboldi’s MGA “Gunga” might have won the ‘most

improved’ award. So, thanks to the conscientious owners, it’s gratifying to notice that these tech sessions are

bearing fruit, and we appreciate their thoughtful car care.

It was also nice that a number of folks

just dropped by to see what was up, visit for a while and provide moral support. Along with some others, a couple of swell Healeys, a few TR6s and

the ex-presidential Genuine Lotus 7 graced the proceedings. Curiously, their owners didn’t want us inspecting their

prizes. Did they have something to hide? No matter. Perhaps the marvelous Coney Island Hot Dogs were the actual

enticement. For the uninitiated, somewhere along the line Paul acquired, completely restored (frame off), and returned to service two

original Genuine Coney Island Hot Dog makers. These neat little mobile carts steam both the hot dogs and the buns

in separate compartments, resulting in delectable victuals that are to die for (or from? - only kidding)!

Until next year, boys and girls, don’t forget to double check the routing of those carburetor overflow tubes, and Safety Fast, y’all!
