Versallesis a city in the Yvelines dpartement in le-de-France region, renowned worldwide for its chteau, the Chteau de Versailles and the gardens of Versailles, designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. According to the 2008 census.

3) Most important Places Day 6 The Palace of Versaillesor simply Versailles, is a royal chteau in Versailles in the le-de-France region of France. In French, it is known as the Chteau de Versailles. When the chteau was built, Versailles was a country village; today, however, it is a wealthy suburb of Paris, some 20 kilometers southwest of the French capital. The court of Versailles was the center of political power in France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789 after the beginning of the French Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Rgime. The Gardens of Versaillesoccupy part of what was once the Domaine royal de Versailles, the royal demesne of the chteau of Versailles. Situated to the west of the palace, the gardens cover some 800 hectares of land, much of which is landscaped in the classic French Garden style perfected here by Andr Le Ntre. Temple de l'Amouris a garden folly of the Chteau de Versailles, and more specifically, in the Petit Trianon part of it. The Hall of Mirrors - La Galerie des Glacesbuilt in 1678 as part of the renovation/addition to Versailles by the Sun King, Louis XIV. The Hall is dazzling and immense, 220 feet long, with one wall covered in mirrors, 357 in all.
