Storm Damage

Th e HPAF farm was hit over night on June 6th by Tropical storm Colin. Sometime during the night, a large oak tree in the gelding pasture split in half and came down onto two fence lines. We think that the geldings must have been standing near the tree when it came crashing down because they ran through the very sturdy fence on the opposite side of their 20-acre pasture. Th e geldings know their fences and that there is a potent electric wire along the top to discourage cribbing and a certain donkey from walking through the fence boards. Th ey must have been very scared to run through the fence. None of the geldings were injured but Momma, the Paso mare from the main herd, got in with the geldings and either was kicked or ran into a post while trying to get away from the pursuing geldings. Dr Hambleton came right away to treat her broken nose. He said there was nothing that could be done and that the swelling would subside from treatment and time. A very special thank you to Sam Osborne for making the emergency repairs to the fence aft er the storm.
