Just another lousy, summer in paradise!The beach beckons and fortunately for

us, it is just steps or a brief bike ride awayfrom our North of Montana neighborhood.Santa Monica State Beach is among themost picturesque in the world. In fact,National Geographic recently named it oneof the world’s top 10 beaches. Rest assured,there is plenty here to keep you comingback all summer long.

Our beach is adorned by one ofSouthern California’s iconic landmarks, theworld famous Santa Monica Pier. The pierhas been home to a movie theater, aballroom and even a bowling alley over theyears and endures as the oldest pleasurepier on the West Coast. Today the pierfeatures a classic carousel, an arcade,numerous restaurants and its very ownamusement park complete with a rollercoaster and Ferris wheel that has become afavorite subject for amateur andprofessional photographers alike.

Starting earlier in July and continuingfor the next several weeks over thesummer, Thursday nights on the SantaMonica Pier feature a rocking good timeduring the annual Twilight Concert Series.This vibrant free series, in its 29th year hasdrawn crowds of up to 40,000. TheTwilight Concert Series is continuallydistinguished by its diverse lineup of

talented musicians. From Mississippi toMexico to Mali from salsa to swing and popto punk, the concerts showcase the best ineclectic music from our area and aroundthe world.

If fitness is your thing be sure to visitthe Annenberg Community Beach House.Located North of Montana, the beachhouse offers everything from beachvolleyball to open-ocean swimminglessons.

Rockin’ by the bayThe temperatures are rising, the days are

longer and the music has returned to theSanta Monica Bay. The Twilight ConcertSeries is back for its 29th year with aseclectic a lineup as ever before.

When crowds flock to the historic SantaMonica Pier for this annual Westsidetradition they will find a stage inhabited by awide-ranging lineup that spans everythingfrom indie pop to Latin rhythms to thesounds of New Orleans.

For the next 7 weeks this summer, thepier will be the center of activity in SantaMonica. Come down to the beach, enjoysome music and keep on dancing.

Day at the beach The Annenberg Community Beach

House at Santa Monica State Beach is a newpublic facility located on 5 acres ofoceanfront property. The beach house storyis one of evolution from private to public,

starting with the development of theproperty at 415 Pacific Coast Highway as anopulent private estate in the 1920s. The siteopened to the public as the AnnenbergCommunity Beach House on April 25, 2009.

The beach house combines elements of thehistoric Marion Davies Estate with newamenities to create a unique communitydestination that’s open to all — nomembership required. With spectacular views,a splash pad, children’s play area, art gallery,historic pool and the Marion Davies GuestHouse there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

This summer, the beach house has madefitness a central theme, with stand-uppaddle boarding added to its lineup ofvigorous activities. An expert will take youout on the waves to show you why the sporthas been growing in popularity the pastcouple of years. Who knows, you may evenlearn enough skills to enter the annualpaddle board race at the Santa Monica Pier.
