    Objective

To adsorb copper and lead in water with the use of coconut husk.

  • 8/10/2019 PS 2 PPT - General Santos Hope Christian School

    3/13

    Procedure

    Gathering of coconut husk

Weighing 10 g of coconut husk

Preparing 2 beakers with 200 ml distilled water

Preparing 2mg of lead and copper

Separately mixing lead and copper in both beakers

Serial dilution of lead and copper in six (6) respective test tubes.

Adding Brine Shrimps to both set ups. One set-up for lead and one set-up for copper. Each

set-up was duplicated one with treatment and the other without treatment.

Adding 1.0g cubed shaped coconut husk to treated test tubes.

Data collection (counting the brine shrimp mortality)

The values in Table 1 is plotted

    and a linear regression function

    is determined through algebraic

    method. The function is being

    determined as y = 0.3303x +5.5957 Setting the value of y at

    5.0 will represent Lethal

    the tested organism will die.

    The Lc50 of the linear

    regression is -1.8035 and

extracting the antilog of x, the

    researcher obtained the value

    of 0.0157217 mg/L., the

    1. That the Department of Health will investigate into this fact to confirm this result. If proven

through their effort, then publish the information to people so that they can apply this treatment

to make sure that their water is fit for drinking.

    2. That people must seek medical aid if something happened to them after using this treatmentto avoid serious complications.

    3. That the same study may be carried out by another researcher to find out the efficiency of

coconut husk in treating other cations from water.
