Psalm 42:1-111 As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, my God.2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?3 My tears have been my food

day and night, while people say to me all day long,

“Where is your God?”4 These things I remember    as I pour out my soul:

how I used to go to the house of God    under the protection of the Mighty One

with shouts of joy and praise    among the festive throng.

Page 3: Psalm 42:1-11 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go

Why, my soul, are you downcast?    Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,    for I will yet praise him,    my Savior and my God.

6 My soul is downcast within me;    therefore I will remember you

from the land of the Jordan,    the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.

7 Deep calls to deep    in the roar of your waterfalls;

all your waves and breakers    have swept over me.

8 By day the LORD directs his love,    at night his song is with me—    a prayer to the God of my life.

Page 4: Psalm 42:1-11 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go

9 I say to God my Rock,    “Why have you forgotten me?Why must I go about mourning,    oppressed by the enemy?”

10 My bones suffer mortal agony    as my foes taunt me,

saying to me all day long,    “Where is your God?”

11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?    Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,    for I will yet praise him,    my Savior and my God.

Lamentations 3:1-6I am the man who has seen affliction

by the rod of the LORD’s wrath.2 He has driven me away and made me walk

in darkness rather than light;3 indeed, he has turned his hand against me

again and again, all day long.4 He has made my skin and my flesh grow old

and has broken my bones.5 He has besieged me and surrounded me

with bitterness and hardship.6 He has made me dwell in darkness

    like those long dead.

Lamentations 3:19-2419 I remember my affliction and my wandering,

the bitterness and the gall.20 I well remember them,

and my soul is downcast within me.21 Yet this I call to mind

and therefore I have hope:22 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not

consumed,    for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning;    great is your faithfulness.

24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;    therefore I will wait for him.”

Lamentations 3:27-2927 It is good for a man to bear the yoke

while he is young.28 Let him sit alone in silence,

for the LORD has laid it on him.29 Let him bury his face in the dust—

    there may yet be hope.

to the place where you dwell.4 Then I will go to the altar of God,    to God, my joy and my delight.

I will praise you with the lyre,    O God, my God.
