INTRODesign Considerations When Selecting PTFE HOSE 1.04

DATABASE FOR PRESSURESAll stated burst pressures are static and are measured on samples at ambient temperature from which averages are recorded to create relevant specifications. Proof or test pressures are usually twice working pressure and all burst pressures are conservatively rated to provide a high margin of safety.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCEThe PTFE hose liner resists all chemicals and solvents except molten alkali metals, Chlorine Trifluoride, and Fluorine Gas.

HOSE QUALITY - PRESSURE TESTING OF RANDOM LENGTH HOSEThe responsibility rests completely on the purchaser to ensure satisfactory and appropriate testing before supplying hose assemblies for final use. All hose is checked extensively throughout all stages of manufacture, PACIFIC HOSEFLEX products is proof pressure tested in sample random pieces and not in bulk lengths. Bulk testing can be offered on all products but does incur a premium. Please contact our Sales Department.

REDUCED STATIC PTFE HOSEA damaging electrostatic charge can build up inside the hose when electrically resistive fluids are being transmitted at very high flow rates (particularly if the PTFE hose assemblies are lengthy). To prevent this a special carbon is mixed with the PTFE to reduce its resistivity. The need for earth conductor braids or wires in the bore of the hose is therefore eliminated. Please contact our Sales Department for advice on when to specify anti-static hose. BS2050:1978 (items 4, 5, 6 and 7 as appropriate) calls for a maximum resistance of 106 ohms/metre hose length on the critical inside surface of the PTFE hose tubing as well as on the outside.

Supply PolicyOur policy is one of continuous development and the information in this publication should be taken only as a guide for the use of PACIFIC HOSEFLEX PTFE hose. It does not constitute a warranty of any kind, expressed or implied, of our products or their suitability for any particular use. We reserve the right to alter published specifications without prior notice. PACIFIC HOSEFLEX introduces ‘AFX’ the easy way to order PTFE hose. We here at PACIFIC HOSEFLEX appreciate the problems that can occur when ordering products in both metric and imperial dimensions, that is why we have introduced the AFX part number system.

Not only do we quote both metric and imperial measurements in all of our specifications but we now assign a part number to each and every product we manufacture.

Just state the AFX number and the quantity you require and we will do the rest, it couldn’t be simpler.

TEMPERATURE AND PRESSUREWhilst PTFE has a working temperature range between -60ºC and +260ºC (dependent upon the grade selected) as with all other types of - hose, increased working temperatures require a reduction in maximum rated working or burst pressure. Whenever excessive flexing, vibration, thermal fluctuations or rapid pressure impulsing is in evidence, further caution should be exercised in reducing the maximum working pressure.ELONGATION AND CONTRACTIONAt working pressure this falls within the range +2% to -4% (l/8” & 3/16` +0% to -6%)

MINIMUM/MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS LENGTHSAll PTFE hose is supplied in random lengths, but if special lengths are required please contact your approved distributor or PACIFIC HOSEFLEX Sales Department.

GENERAL PURPOSE Smooth bore hoses

Also Available- SAE 10OR14- IMPERIAL STANDARD AND HEAVY WALL- METRIC STANDARD AND HEAVY WALL- DASH RANGE STANDARD WALL

SAE 100R14The PTFE hose core is manufactured from PTFE. No pigments or additives are incorporated thus giving the hose liner a translucent appearance free from any contamination. The wire braiding (1 or 2 wire available) is produced from AISI 304/S15 or BS970 1970 quality hard drawn tensile stainless steel wire. Reduced static versions of all hoses are available for applications where electrically resistive fluids are being transferred at high flow rates.

The standard wall products are not recommended for steam-cold water cycling. We recommend the Heavy Wall range for the most demanding applications including intense thermal cycling. All figures stated are for 1 wire braid hose - 2 wire braid hose specifications are available upon request.

SMOOTH BORE HOSE

All of the hoses in the following range are fully approved to the SAE specification and are available from Pacific Hoseflex today. We feel that this will become the global size range for PTFE hoses and recommend that your smooth bore hose demands are selected from this range. If the coupling size restricts your choice we have three further ranges of smooth bore hoses for you to select the exact size that best suits your requirement.

Construction:A helically convoluted PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) inner tube, medium wall, with an outer cover of AISI 304 high tensile stainless steel braid.

Properties:The hose is virtually resistant to all chemicals, except molten alkali metals or halogens at elevated temperatures. It is non-stick and easy to clean with a temperature range of -70º C to +260º C. The mechanical resistance for vibrations and flexing is excellent. The product is chemically inert, non-ageing and has a very good U.V. resistance. The low co-efficiency of friction ensures low pressure drop. It is non-flammable and FDA. approved for food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.

Typical Applications:Encapsulated PTFE is recommended on all tafted flange assemblies when pressure or vacuum are applied.

Hyperline is unlike any other PTFE hose product currently available.

The PTFE liner tube is smooth bore on the inside but convoluted on the outside, to combine the ease of assembly and high flow rates of a smooth bore hose with the flexibility and kink resistance of a Hyperline FX in one product.Full vacuum resistance SS Braided Hyperline FX hose is vacuum resistant up to 130˚C

Hyperline is available in the following grades: Hyperline FX TO - Natural PTFE Tube Only, no braid. Hyperline FX AS, TO - Anti-Static Black PTFE Tube Only, no braid. Hyperline FX SS - Natural PTFE Tube Only, external 304 Stainless Steel Braid. Hyperline FX AS, SS - Anti-Static Black PTFE Tube 304 Stainless Steel Braid

To Special Order, Hyperline FX can also be supplied with a Polypropylene or Kevlar Braid, or with S/S braidwith an EPDM or Silicone Rubber Cover, or a PVC, Nylon or other Plastic Cover.

PTFE HOSEBioflex1.12

Bioflex Technical Information & Product Range Temperature, Pressure and Flex-Life - Due to its extremely strong construction, Bioflex has outstanding resistance to temperature, pressure and flexing. In tests, a 1”Bioflex hose was still intact tested at 50 Bar for 100,000 cycles flexed to its minimum bend radius in 2 directions inside an oven heated to 180ºC, where a competitor’s convoluted hose failed after just 1,300 cycles.

Bioflex Flow Rates Bioflex flow rates are 2-3 times better than convoluted PTFE hose with the same hose bore size, due to non-turbulent flow. Gas Permeability Bioflex has 2-3 times the permeation resistance of standard convoluted hose.

Temperature Resistance Depending upon operating conditions and type of braid, Bioflex is usable at temperatures from -70º to +260ºC.

Pressure Resistance Depending upon operating conditions and type of braid, Bioflex is usable up to 80 Bar (3/8”) and 30 Bar (2”).

Vacuum Resistance Bioflex is usable at full vacuum up to 130ºC. Above this temperature, vacuum resistance is reduced by 1% per ºC

Size Range Bioflex is available in bore sizes from 3/8” to 2” in lengths of up to 20 meters.

Spigot, usually with an internal thread which screws onto theconvolutions, securing the hose liner to the spigot.

PTFE liner tube extended through the end fitting, then flared out to formthe sealing face

Bioflex PTFE Liner Tube: - externally convoluted - smoothbore, with slight ripples - internal surface finish is ‘mirror smooth’. generated by hot polishing during manufacture

Ferrule, crimped to secure braid to spigot.

Swivel Flange

THE BIOFLEX PRODUCT RANGE Bioflex Hose Liners 2 grades of PTFE lined hose liner are available: Bioflex GP (a virgin PTFE liner) and Bioflex AS (an anti-static PTFE liner), both manufactured from FDA approved materials. Bioflex Hose Braids 3 types of Hose Braid are available: Stainless Steel, Polypropylene and Kynar (PVDF).

Bioflex External Protection Where additional protection is required, Bioflex is available Rubber Covered, Fireproof Rubber Covered or Silicone Rubber Covered. Alternative protection includes Scuff Rings or a Stainless Steel Protection Coil.

Bioflex End Fittings Bioflex is available with a range of integral PTFE lined and flared end fittings including Flanges, DIN 11851, Cam Action, Autolock Cam Action, Triclover, SMS, RJT, RJP. Triclover fittings include a PTFE sealing face which is hot formed to accept the standard Triclover rubber seal (patent protected).

Steam and Electrical Trace Heating Bioflex is available steam or electrically trace heated, custom built for specific applications.

BRAKE LINESPacific Hoseflex has approval to assemble quality brake lines. All hoses are street legal and look extremely neat and professional. The brake lines are constructed with stainless steel braid (with optional PVC tubing cover) and PTFE inner liner which is factory precision crimped to either a zinc plated or stainless steel fitting to eliminate leaking.Approved to FMVSS106

The PTFE inner liner and stainless steel braid eliminates hose expansion common to original factory rubber brake lines which gives a better braking performance. PTFE is the world wide standard of the racing industry for flexible brake, clutch and instrument hoses.

ANODIZED ENDSApplication: Designed for use on low pressure applications where swivel hose ends are not required or are impractical to use. These clamps give a tidy and professional appearance to any installation.
