SAINT ROSE OFFERS FREE VIDEO WORKSHOPS FOR ALBANY’S PUBLIC ACCESS CHANNEL

The College of Saint Rose again will offer a series of free workshops for people who want to

produce programming for Albany’s public access TV channel.

Albany city residents will be given first priority to register to attend the two-hour

workshops. Non-Albany residents may have their names placed on a waiting list in the event

openings occur.

Five different training sessions will cover video shooting, basic digital editing, advanced

digital editing, story development and use of the television studio. The workshops will be offered on

a rotating basis at 6 p.m. on Thursdays between May 15 and July 24.

Most sessions will be presented on the Saint Rose campus at the William Randolph Hearst

Center for Communications and Interactive Media, 996 Madison Ave., Albany. The TV studio

workshop will take place in the studio at the Albany Public Library, 161 Washington Ave., Albany.

This is the third round of annual workshops offered as part of a collaboration among The

College of Saint Rose, the city of Albany, Time Warner Cable, The New School of Radio and

Television and Albany High School to assist city residents in preparing content to be shown on

public access TV. Additional training may be required to operate equipment in the television studio.

Filmmaker and video installation artist Liz Richards will lead the workshops. Richards has

worked in television and web production at WGBH in Boston, was a cinema professor at Point Park

University in Pittsburgh and received the 2009 Women in Film and Media (Pittsburgh Chapter)

“Excellence in Filmmaking Award.” Richards has had more than 60 national and international

screenings of her work in Japan, Germany, Sweden, Finland and France.

To qualify for the workshops, participants must be 18 years of age or older, must have a

valid photo ID with address and must register in advance for each workshop. Computer skills

are essential, particularly for the editing classes.
