Taking up very little space, they have been designed to
deliver a high level of functionality and performance at a
low investment cost. The Prosetter series is also unique in
its class since its modular design means it can be expanded

Expandable and flexible
With Prosetter platesetters, Heidelberg offers you all the
benefits of CtP production at a low investment cost. The
innovative design of the Prosetter 52, 74 and 102 models
is based on violet CtP technology and is guaranteed to
impress. They can also be upgraded to fully automatic
high-performance units with Single Cassette Loader (SCL)
or Multi Cassette Loader (MCL). Its compact design and
powerful air filter technology, which protects the inside
of the machine from soiling, means that the Prosetter
can be used in almost any production environment.
Prosetters equipped with SCL and MCL can also be operated
under daylight conditions. Yellow light in the production

Grow at your own pace
Every model in the Prosetter series can be expanded to
meet growing numbers of orders or the increased requi-
rements of the market. This is ensured by the modular
design. Consequently, you can add a Single Cassette Loader
or Multi Cassette Loader to the basic units at any time,
thereby turning them into fully automatic systems.
Handling up to 24 plates per hour in 4-page format and
up to 20 plates per hour in 8-page format, the acceler-
ated Prosetters (PF74 and PF102) can cope with even the
highest throughput requirements. If you should wish to
upgrade your Prosetter 52 from 2-page to 4-page format
in the future, this is no problem at all. Regardless of how
fast your business grows, the Prosetters are designed to
grow with you.

Cutting-edge technology plus automation
Over 13 years of experience in internal drum imaging
has enabled Heidelberg to develop the Prosetter range, a
generation of violet platesetters with outstanding quality
and reliability. The internal drum architecture delivers the
precision that you have come to expect from Heidelberg.
In all the Prosetter models, the printing plate is precisely
aligned in a half shell and held in place by a vacuum
during imaging. The laser is moved along this half shell
and images the plate one dot at a time. The laser spot is
guided via a rotating prism, delivering precision down
to thousandths of a millimeter. This is made possible by
the air bearing, which is frictionless.
Fitting the Prosetter with an SCL or MCL makes it even
more user-friendly and reliable. Operator intervention
is reduced to a minimum and you can produce non-stop
for many hours.
Step 2: While the first plate fixed in the drum is being imaged, the SCL orMCL prepares the next plate for production.
Step 1: As soon as an imaging job has been received, the SCL or MCLloaders feed a plate to the Prosetter. The slip sheet is automatically removedand placed in the collecting tray prior to this stage.
Step 4: While the imaged printing plate is being developed in the interfacedprocessor and an imaging process is underway, the SCL or MCL can bebusy preparing the next printing plate.
The MCL enables automatic access to up to four different plate formatsthat can be selected under job control using a software package.
Step 3: Once the first printing plate has been imaged, the SCL or MCLautomatically passes the next plate to the imaging unit. The imaged plateis transferred directly to an interfaced online processor.

Daylight operation
The Single Cassette Loader and Multi Cassette Loader
are light-proof loading systems which automatically
feed the plates into the interfaced Prosetter. Prosetters
equipped with an SCL or MCL system can therefore

settes each contain up to 150 plates of 0.15 mm (0.006 in)
thickness or 100 plates of 0.30 mm (0.012 in) thickness.

ensures reliable production. One unique feature of the
fully automatic loading systems is that they automati-
cally remove and check the slip sheet. The slip sheets are
deposited flat and cleanly in a 400 sheet capacity collec-
tion tray. This prevents troublesome paper jams and also
allows multi-shift production without having to empty
the tray. After imaging, the plates are fed – narrow side
first – into the processor via an integrated 90° conveyor.
This means that the smallest possible automatic proces-
sors can be connected to the SCL, thereby cutting chemi-
cal consumption and saving space and money.
Plate transport is easy with a Prosetter fitted with fully automatic MultiCassette Loader - even when space is at a premium. The Prosetter cassettecarriage offers maximum convenience.

If a single color separation requires post-imaging work,
even tiny temperature fluctuations can cause registration
problems – but not with a Prosetter! Precise internal tem-
perature measurement and imaging adjustment ensure
perfect post-production work on plates. Costly downtimes
can thus be minimized, since there is no need to create a
complete plate set.
Protecting against dust
To prevent dust being deposited in the Prosetter, there is
always a slight overpressure in the unit. The air that is
drawn in for this purpose is finely filtered through an
integrated filter system, thereby ensuring that no dust
particles find their way onto the optical system or into
the imaging unit.
Silver halide and photopolymer plates
The issue of the plate type is irrelevant for the Prosetter.
Indeed, the Prosetter allows you to choose freely whether
you wish to use silver halide or photopolymer plates. The
60 MW laser head can be set easily to both plate types.
Consequently, both types of plate can be imaged over the
400 to 410 nm spectral range.
Large plate formats
By introducing the additional plate format for the
Printmaster® QM 46, Heidelberg is also setting new stan-
dards in terms of format flexibility for 8-page platesetters.
The Prosetter 102 is now configured in such a way that it
can effortlessly serve all printing press formats from the
Printmaster QM 46 to the Speedmaster® XL 105.
The latest punching technology
The Prosetter works with absolute register accuracy.
Depending on the model, the violet platesetters can be
equipped with up to four integrated punching systems
for almost any common printing press from Heidelberg
and other manufacturers. After the printing plate has
been loaded, it is centered and fixed in position by means
of a vacuum. Imaging then takes place and the plate is
automatically punched for the chosen printing press. The
result is a perfectly punched register and shorter make-
ready times. Production is accelerated too.
Workflow linkup and consumables
The new JDF-based Prinect Printready System™ work-
flow solutions from Heidelberg mean that all Prosetter
units can be integrated easily into every workflow.
What’s more, local Heidelberg contacts can always rec-
ommend a broad range of consumables such as printing
plates, chemicals and processors.
Loading plates – no problem!
Heidelberg has developed its own cassette carriage for
transporting plates easily from the storage area to the
platesetter site and for user-friendly filling of the loaders.
When designing the carriage, we paid particular attention
to maximizing ergonomic benefits and thereby ensuring
the greatest possible advantage to the operator in every
step of the process. For example, the cassette carriage can
be inclined when the cassette is being loaded. This makes
it much easier to insert the plates. If necessary, the cassette
carriage can also be pushed along easily in this position.
This is an advantage which is particularly important when
working in small rooms with normal doorways, and
when transporting large printing plates. With a width of
less than 80 cm, the raised Prosetter cassette carriage is so
narrow that it can be maneuvered easily in even the
smallest of spaces.
The cassette carriage can also be used to load the SCL
and MCL systems – an effortless procedure. This is done
by simply docking the carriage in the horizontal position
and unlocking the cassette. As soon as it has been inserted
into the loader, the Prosetter can resume operation.
“Plate on Demand” with Prinect CP2000 Center 1)
The Prosetter can be integrated effortlessly into a work-
flow featuring the Prinect® CP2000 Center®. There are a
number of significant advantages in controlling plate pro-
duction from the Prinect CP2000 Center. For example,
the operator can select the relevant file on the monitor
of the Prinect CP2000 Center in the printroom and start
plate production – all this without having any knowledge
of prepress processes. No matter whether he’s working
the night shift when no prepress operative is available
or he’s simply carrying out post-production work on a
plate during the day shift, the printer can select from the
listed imaging files using the touchscreen of the Prinect
CP2000 Center and thereby control the Prosetter directly.
He can naturally also change the sequence of plates
being imaged at any time. What’s more, the CP2000

of the Prinect CP2000 Center in the printroom and start
plate production – all this without having any knowledge
of prepress processes. No matter whether he’s working
the night shift when no prepress operative is available
or he’s simply carrying out post-production work on a
plate during the day shift, the printer can select from the
listed imaging files using the touchscreen of the Prinect
CP2000 Center and thereby control the Prosetter directly.

Daylight operation
The Single Cassette Loader and Multi Cassette Loader
are light-proof loading systems which automatically
feed the plates into the interfaced Prosetter. Prosetters
equipped with an SCL or MCL system can therefore
operate under daylight conditions. Yellow light is only
needed for filling up the cassettes. The light-tight cas-
settes each contain up to 150 plates of 0.15 mm (0.006 in)
thickness or 100 plates of 0.30 mm (0.012 in) thickness.
Sensor-controlled plate positioning and monitoring
ensures reliable production. One unique feature of the
fully automatic loading systems is that they automati-
cally remove and check the slip sheet. The slip sheets are
deposited flat and cleanly in a 400 sheet capacity collec-
tion tray. This prevents troublesome paper jams and also
allows multi-shift production without having to empty
the tray. After imaging, the plates are fed – narrow side
first – into the processor via an integrated 90° conveyor.
This means that the smallest possible automatic proces-
sors can be connected to the SCL, thereby cutting chemi-
cal consumption and saving space and money.
Plate transport is easy with a Prosetter fitted with fully automatic MultiCassette Loader - even when space is at a premium. The Prosetter cassettecarriage offers maximum convenience.

assigned for future operations. Through “Plate on
Demand”, Heidelberg is showing that the integration of

Temperature compensation
If a single color separation requires post-imaging work,
even tiny temperature fluctuations can cause registration
problems – but not with a Prosetter! Precise internal tem-
perature measurement and imaging adjustment ensure
perfect post-production work on plates. Costly downtimes
can thus be minimized, since there is no need to create a
complete plate set.
Protecting against dust
To prevent dust being deposited in the Prosetter, there is
always a slight overpressure in the unit. The air that is
drawn in for this purpose is finely filtered through an
integrated filter system, thereby ensuring that no dust
particles find their way onto the optical system or into
the imaging unit.
Silver halide and photopolymer plates
The issue of the plate type is irrelevant for the Prosetter.
Indeed, the Prosetter allows you to choose freely whether
you wish to use silver halide or photopolymer plates. The
60 MW laser head can be set easily to both plate types.
Consequently, both types of plate can be imaged over the
400 to 410 nm spectral range.
Large plate formats
By introducing the additional plate format for the
Printmaster® QM 46, Heidelberg is also setting new stan-
dards in terms of format flexibility for 8-page platesetters.
The Prosetter 102 is now configured in such a way that it
can effortlessly serve all printing press formats from the
Printmaster QM 46 to the Speedmaster® XL 105.
The latest punching technology
The Prosetter works with absolute register accuracy.
Depending on the model, the violet platesetters can be
equipped with up to four integrated punching systems
for almost any common printing press from Heidelberg
and other manufacturers. After the printing plate has
been loaded, it is centered and fixed in position by means
of a vacuum. Imaging then takes place and the plate is
automatically punched for the chosen printing press. The
result is a perfectly punched register and shorter make-
ready times. Production is accelerated too.
Workflow linkup and consumables
The new JDF-based Prinect Printready System™ work-
flow solutions from Heidelberg mean that all Prosetter
units can be integrated easily into every workflow.
What’s more, local Heidelberg contacts can always rec-
ommend a broad range of consumables such as printing
plates, chemicals and processors.
Loading plates – no problem!
Heidelberg has developed its own cassette carriage for
transporting plates easily from the storage area to the
platesetter site and for user-friendly filling of the loaders.
When designing the carriage, we paid particular attention
to maximizing ergonomic benefits and thereby ensuring
the greatest possible advantage to the operator in every
step of the process. For example, the cassette carriage can
be inclined when the cassette is being loaded. This makes
it much easier to insert the plates. If necessary, the cassette
carriage can also be pushed along easily in this position.
This is an advantage which is particularly important when
working in small rooms with normal doorways, and
when transporting large printing plates. With a width of
less than 80 cm, the raised Prosetter cassette carriage is so
