Yankton Press & Dakotan May 11, 2010 Louise Pugh Louise Eleanor Hanna Pugh, beloved wife, mother, grandmoth- er and sister, passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born Louise Eleanor Hanna in Boston, Massachusetts, August 7, 1925. The 3rd child in a family of 10 siblings, and the first girl, she was spoiled by her broth- ers and grew up to the loving nur- turer that we knew and loved. During WWII, she proudly served her country building radio tubes at Raytheon. She always wanted to marry a cowboy and met Edwin Pugh, the love of her life, 64 years ago while he was on leave from the Navy in the South Pacific. She and Ed were married on March 30, 1946, and she soon moved west and began her adventure as a rancher’s wife. The life was not easy. She went from having running water and flushing toilets to having to haul the water and hope she would get to be the first to bathe in the wash tub. She persevered through dust storms, famine and an outbreak of polio. But she never complained, rather looked at it as a new adven- ture. Though petite and quiet, the Bostonian bred princess did have a fiery temper! Don’t cross her family or the pots and pans would be flying! And don’t make dis- paraging remarks about the Denver Broncos or you might end up on your bottom! She was incredibly strong: She nursed her husband back to health from a polio attack. Later, she took care of her daughter, Sandy, as she struggled with the devastating effects of Lupus in 1987. Family meant everything to her. Holidays were always a huge event at Mom and Dad’s. Every birthday was celebrated with a cake homemade by Mom. Aside from her family, Louise loved the Colorado mountains, playing the piano, listening to music, visiting with her adult chil- dren, spending time with her grandchildren and early road trips in the bus Ed converted to a camper — even if it did break down every time! She loved telling children about Jesus, she spent 60-plus years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She and her husband went on many missionary trips building churches and teaching VBS across the country. She really enjoyed the Women’s Bible Studies and treasured the friendships she made at Calvary Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her cowboy Eddie; children Robert of Boston, MA; Leslie (Sandy) of Salida, CO; Jerry of San Diego, CA; Annette of Salida, CO, and DeeDee (Gary Wood) of Yankton, SD; grandchildren, Elijah, Rachel, Jody, Michelle, Annette, Leslie, Christopher and Vanessa; great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters Herbie, Phyllis, Alice, Ruth, Betty, Leslie and Jimmy. She was preceded in death by daughters Sandra Jean and Juanita Louise; grandson, Robert; and brothers Harold and Buddy. She was a giving and loving Christian woman who dedicated her life to her husband, family, and church. She knew Jesus loved her very much; He called her home to the mansion and feast He had prepared for her. And we will celebrate. Viewing will be 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 at Opsahl- Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton, SD. Louise PughLouise Eleanor Hanna Pugh,

beloved wife, mother, grandmoth-er and sister, passed away at theage of 84 on Wednesday, May 5,2010 in Sioux Falls, SD.

She was born Louise EleanorHanna in Boston, Massachusetts,August 7, 1925. The 3rd child in afamily of 10 siblings, and the firstgirl, she was spoiled by her broth-ers and grew up to the loving nur-turer that we knew and loved.During WWII, she proudly servedher country building radio tubesat Raytheon. She always wantedto marry a cowboy and met EdwinPugh, the love of her life, 64 yearsago while he was on leave fromthe Navy in the South Pacific. Sheand Ed were married on March 30,1946, and she soon moved westand began her adventure as arancher’s wife.

The life was not easy. She wentfrom having running water andflushing toilets to having to haulthe water and hope she would getto be the first to bathe in the washtub. She persevered through duststorms, famine and an outbreak ofpolio. But she never complained, rather looked at it as a new adven-ture. Though petite and quiet, theBostonian bred princess did havea fiery temper! Don’t cross herfamily or the pots and pans wouldbe flying! And don’t make dis-paraging remarks about the

Denver Broncos oryou might end upon your bottom! She was incrediblystrong: She nursedher husband backto health from apolio attack. Later, she took care ofher daughter,Sandy, as shestruggled with the

devastating effects of Lupus in1987. Family meant everything toher. Holidays were always a hugeevent at Mom and Dad’s. Everybirthday was celebrated with acake homemade by Mom.

Aside from her family, Louiseloved the Colorado mountains, playing the piano, listening tomusic, visiting with her adult chil-dren, spending time with hergrandchildren and early road tripsin the bus Ed converted to acamper — even if it did breakdown every time! She loved tellingchildren about Jesus, she spent60-plus years teaching SundaySchool and Vacation Bible School. She and her husband went onmany missionary trips buildingchurches and teaching VBS acrossthe country. She really enjoyedthe Women’s Bible Studies andtreasured the friendships shemade at Calvary Baptist Church.

She will be greatly missed byher cowboy Eddie; children

Robert of Boston, MA; Leslie(Sandy) of Salida, CO; Jerry of SanDiego, CA; Annette of Salida, CO,and DeeDee (Gary Wood) ofYankton, SD; grandchildren, Elijah,Rachel, Jody, Michelle, Annette,Leslie, Christopher and Vanessa;great-grandchildren; and brothersand sisters Herbie, Phyllis, Alice,Ruth, Betty, Leslie and Jimmy.

She was preceded in death bydaughters Sandra Jean andJuanita Louise; grandson, Robert;and brothers Harold and Buddy.

She was a giving and lovingChristian woman who dedicatedher life to her husband, family, and church. She knew Jesus lovedher very much; He called herhome to the mansion and feast Hehad prepared for her. And we willcelebrate.
