INTRODUCTION
4BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
This document provides a set of recommendations for
video shootings at Pullman. It sets out the objectives
& provides guidance for the work done by
videographers. TVtrip produced two video pilots
based on these guidelines:
Pullman Barcelona Skipper
Pullman Paris La Defense
The purpose of these video guidelines is to:
Showcase Pullman’s brand image and hotels by
means of distinctive visual material.
Differentiate the brand from its competitors through
a distinctive approach.
For a 90 seconds video, a minimum of 3 days is
necessary to film the property, up to 5 based on the
size and requirements of the hotel.
RHYTHM & CONTRAST
HUMAN PRESENCE
Human presence is a strong differentiator.
Guests and staff appearing in videos should
be representative of Pullman clients:
cosmopolitan and business-leisure oriented.
Hotel staff will be included in the video. An in-
house casting session needs to be held prior
the shooting.
Shot will be framed to show the space around
the person(s) and will include the architecture
and decorative features in the composition.
Clothing style should reflect the aspirations of
PULLMAN guests: elegant, contemporary & modern.

ARCHITECTURE
7BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
Compositions should illustrate the key
principles of the international style:
expression of volume via smooth and
uncluttered exterior surfaces, regularity of
vertical and horizontal lines and extensive
use of concrete, steel and glass combined
with noble materials.
Lighting should be soft & natural. We will
use as much natural daylight as possible,
but also use the interplay of light and
shadow to introduce a sculptured effect,
create a sense of resonance and enhance
the overall esthetic quality of the image.Volume & aesthetics
STYLING ELEMENTS
8BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
Suggesting & creating desire, appealing
people’s imaginations instead of showing
every space in details.
Foreground: sharp focus on a detail of the
tableware and a culinary preparation for
example.
Background: soft focus with a depth effect,
suggesting the spaciousness and
atmosphere of the room for example.

4 CREATIVE CONCEPTS
01 // BACKLIGHT SERVICE GESTURE
We should treat client silhouette in the
same way.
Highlight the staff though the service
gestures. People with be shown as silhouette,
with, when it is possible, a backlight effect.

02 // TIME LAPSE - TILT SHIFT
15BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
The panorama is original and enables to see
the city from the hotel.
Use the time-lapse / tilt-shift effect to enhance
the points of view of the city from the hotel.
03 // SPLIT SCREEN
16BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
The split screen effect divides the
screen in 3 parts.
Use a split-screen effect (with thin white
edges) in order to give a modern and
geometrical aspect.
04 // CHROMATIC SETTINGS
17BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
Images should be contrasted, but colors
should not be too bright or lighting to
strong If daylight levels are too low, use
light box. with diffusers to create a soft
ambient lighting effect.
Use as much natural daylight as possible, but
also use the interplay of light and shadow to
introduce a sculptured effect, create a sense
of resonance and enhance the overall
aesthetic quality of the image.

EQUIPMENT
19BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
We exclusively use Reflex cameras thanks to
their multiple benefits and filmic aesthetics:
Saving space in narrow places of filming.
Speed of implementation (lightness) and
movement.
Lighting saver. It’s not necessary to have
important light sources because of high
sensitivity of some Reflex cameras.
To ensure high quality, we selected a short
list of reflex: Canon 7D, 5D MII and MIII,
Nikon D800.

FRAMING 1/2
20BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
We value the shots by adding some lights
occasionally to reduce the shadows and favor
smooth movement shots: the camera is
moving slightly, using traveling slider,
compelling framing, tipping point.
The editing style alternates the shots with
slider movements (wide angle) and shots with
racking focus.
The storyboard main line is “the hotel
discovery”: revealing what a customer feels
and sees while discovering an interior of a
property.
FRAMING 2/2
21BRIEF VIDEO DESTINE AUX FILMS HOTELS // PULLMAN // TVTRIP // JUILLET 2013
Suggestive shooting: with the camera at eye
level to show what a customer sees.
Use a wide angle to value spaces.
Large and wide open framing : wide angle,
not panoramic one.
Value framing with perspectives, emphasizing
different points of interest, angles, textures,
shapes.
Giving the subject space to breath in order to
show generosity and clarity of the spaces.
Avoid all the unsighted details (extraction
system, false ceiling tiles, fire
extinguishers,…).
Avoid sidelong framing.
