Pumpkin BrowniesPreheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 inchbaking pan. Stir the flour, baking powder, and salttogether in a bowl. In another bowl, stir togetherthe melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract; beatin the eggs one at a time with a spoon. Graduallyadd the flour mixture, and stir the batter until it'sevenly moistened. Divide the batter in half in twoseparate bowls. Into one bowl of batter, blend thecocoa powder and chocolate chips. In the secondbowl of batter, stir in the pumpkin puree, walnuts, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Spread 1/2 of thechocolate batter into the bottom of the preparedbaking pan, and follow with 1/2 of the pumpkin batter. Repeat the layers, ending with a pumpkin
layer, and drag a kitchen knife or small spatula gently through the layers in aswirling motion, to create a marbled appearance. Bake in the preheated ovenuntil the brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan, and atoothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes. A Thanksgiving Treat? You have finished with your Thanksgiving feast and you have a lot of leftovers onyour hands. You may be tempted to give some of them to your pet as a treat. Thisis not such a good idea, since some leftovers can be dangerous. Turkey bones arehollow and sharp, and can break easily inside your dog’s mouth or throat. It couldcause him to choke or to get severe cuts. Instead of leftovers, purchase somespecial treats that are designed for pets.
Candles Under ControlCandles are very popular and can add to theatmosphere to your home. They can also be dangerous if left unattended. Please becareful whenever you light candles. Keep some distance between the flame and
anything flammable, such as curtains or picture frames. If youhave small children or pets, keep candles out of reach. Alwaysblow out the flame before you leave your home or go to bed.Don’t invite a potential fire. The danger doesn’t stop with theflame, though—hot wax can drip on to carpets or flooring andstain or damage community property. A little caution can keepbig problems from developing.
