English in the workplace

Science Quest, Math Circle and Computer Club members and

their moderators spearheaded the AghaMath.Com last November 12-16,

2012 which aimed at bringing out the best in ANHS students through

launching novel and interesting contests.

ants were tasked to build a robot and program it to follow directions in a

given time. Winners were Adrian T. Asañon, 2B and Ezequiel B. Visa-

gar, 4B (First Place), John Edward Sancho of 3B, Franklin Scott Martin

were chosen in the competition. 4-A students stood out among the rest as

they won first and second place. Science activities and experiments were

held at the Science Laboratory. The week culminated with the Alterna-

tive Class Program (ACP) on Climate Change for fourth year students

given by Mr. Marlon Castillo, High School Social Concerns Moderator.

AghaMath.Com was full of innovative activities for the students

to participate and exhibit their talents.

though the government wanted to

establish a law regarding the

population control, the Catholic

Church is not in favor of any ac-

tions like the Reproductive Health

Bill. In modern life, many teenag-

ers become pregnant because of

lack of education and impulsive

decisions. Many of them suffer

from poverty and are born less

fortunate. They are not aware of

the consequences of the actions

they would take.

The topic was really help-

ful. Though participants were al-

ready adults and they already

know what they are doing, re-

minding them is still a good thing

for them to be conscious of the

steps they make in life.

Human Sexuality Semi-

nar for first to third year students

was held last November 16, 2012

spearheaded by Mr. Ronaldo M.

Belen, the Guidance Counselor,

as the speaker.

The seminar aims to raise

awareness of students on human

sexuality as they make crucial

decisions in their lives as adults.

Mr. Belen discussed the

stages of having an intimate rela-

tionship, differentiating sexuality

of the male and female, and the

definition and elements of sexual-

ity. He also tackled that love is

not equal to sex.

“Deaf yet Able” was the

theme of this year’s celebration of

the 9th ANHS Deaf Week spear-

headed by the Deaf Buddy Club

and Program for Deaf Learners

held last November 7-13, 2012 .

The weeklong celebration

was an opportunity for the Deaf

to celebrate their community lan-

guage, culture, and history for the

LSGH community to be aware

and recognize their achievements.

The activities proved that they are

Deaf yet they are able to demon-

strate and share their talents.

Contests include Logo

PUNLAD

“Success is not a destination, it is a journey.” We hope

this is in the mind of our fellow schoolmates. We noticed that

the drop - out rate this year is quite high. This has been a big

concern of ANHS. Some of the main reasons why ANHS stu-

dents drop are poverty, family problems, attitude, and health

related problems. We cannot blame those students who are fac-

ing these kinds of trials. That is why the Lasallian Community

is there to help those who want to continue their dreams. Un-

fortunately, we have no control of their decisions. We just hope

that everything they chose is for the best. We believe that

ANHS has enough programs to attend to the students’ needs.

Examples of these programs are the “One Heart One

Purpose” spearheaded by the Student Council and the numer-

ous scholarships given by the school to help needy students in

their transportation allowance. Yet, they still chose to drop and

give up on their studies. Almost all ANHS students have class-

mates that dropped. It is just a sad thing to see a student hold-

ing a yellow form and see them approach their teachers to sign

it. All we can do is see them walk away and hope nothing but

the best in their journey. The school has done its part, but what

about our part? Maybe, just maybe we can make a difference in

their lives. Sometimes, money is not always the solution in

every problem. Sometimes, open ears and a wise advice are all

we need to solve a problem.

Let us encourage our fellow students to never give up

on their studies permanently. Instead, we should inspire them

to try harder for them to realize that they are lucky to have been

given an opportunity to study in a La Salle school. Hopefully,

we can carry out the mission of St. La Salle on helping others

in achieving their dreams.

pangongopya?

What’s the Point?

By Allen Vincent P. Amante, 5-A

Halaga

Ni Reynan B. Del Rosario, 4-B Ni Maribel K. Ramirez, 4-B

Bakit kaya hindi pantay-pantay ang kon-

tribusyon ng pamahalaan para sa bayan? Bakit

natin? Bakit mayroon tayong iba’t-ibang interpretasyon? Ano ba ang da-

pat? Kailangan ba mayroong nasa itaas at nasa ilalim?

isipan minu-minuto, oras- oras, at araw-araw.

kanilang pangarap.

may mahirap? Bakit may mayaman?

Tignan mo

ang mga taong nakapaligid sa iyo. Nakikita mo ba ang pulubing

nasa daan? Tignan mo ang buhay niya. Pinipilit niyang kumain

upang manatili dito sa mundo.

Maraming paraan upang mabuhay at maraming dahilan

para mabuhay pa sa mundong ito. Lahat tayo ay may mahalagang

papel sa mundo. Minamaliit mo ba ang mga kasambahay? Isipin

mayaman man o mahirap.

We might have asked ourselves these ques-

tions many times, “What’s the point? Why are we

here? What is my purpose of living?” We tend to

ask these when we face trials in our lives. The an-

swers are hard to find but we cannot find these by

giving up.

Problems are like gifts; they come in different sizes. The

bigger the gift, the harder it is to unwrap. Just like problems, the

bigger the problem, the harder it is to solve. Yes, all of us do not

deserve these problems. But have you ever thought why God gave

us these trials? It is because He knows that we can overcome it.

Unfortunately, we give up because it is just too hard for us. That is

when we doubt ourselves of our purpose in life. Strong faith and a

positive attitude are important.

We all have to trust God that there is always a rainbow in

every horizon. Something good will eventually happen if we just

persist. Giving up is never an option. It never was and it never will

be. No good will come out of it; only failure and disappointment

to us. Some questions are hard to answer. But as long as we are on

the right path, everything will become clearer. As Ted Failon al-

ways says on the radio, “Trust, believe and surrender!” As long as

we are alive, we have a purpose. There is still a mission that needs

to be accomplished.

Life is never fair. While a child begs for money to buy

food, another child is spoiled and overwhelmed by their parents

with bountiful food. We undergo these challenges because we are

strong enough to withstand it. We have a purpose, and it is up to us

to find it out.

ADLIB:

Sumigaw (hey!)

Ipagmalaking kayumanggi

Bandila ay iwagayway

Sama-samang magkaisa.

(Repeat Chorus & ADLIB)

Teka, “Vote for Linda Cuntapay for Mayor: Maaaring takbuhan ng inyong mga problema.

Vote for Me...?

From the moment I came and met you The darkness in me began to glow

The little I knew slowly grow My thirst for knowledge is quenched by you.

Wanna be like you, wanna be like you Your ample knowledge amazes me so

I admire the kind of patience you show For helping others you inspire me more.

You give me chance to improve myself

Encourage me to do my best You push me to my limits

Mold my mind and uplift my spirit

You really are one of a kind, In building nation your service is prime

Your chosen field is among the best, Caught my attention and bids to my interests.

Pleasing them all.

CHORUS:

We shout and we fight for his name

Fly high and aim for the sky

With a burning desire

Let’s keep the light in the fire.

We lined up, we spoke out

And share the spirit in a class

Hang in there,

Don’t you dare fall.

What Love Does By Jacqueline B. Jacinto, 5-A

Love makes you smile, Makes you laugh,

And makes you cry What is love if you will give up?

In a relationship, lovers sacrifice.

If you let go the negative minds, Happiness all we can wish.

How can you feel this if your heart is full of ha-tred

focus in your heart’s desire to truly love and be loved

I just wanted to die if you are lost in my life

You stole my heart and I’m always at your side Now you left, I hope you will not regret

the decision you've made.

Remember the first dance we had and the glimpse at bright stars

May you see your smile in your journey in life I’m sorry is all I can say to the wounds I made

Now I realized the importance of you in my life Just remember if you'll be okay

allow me to say sorry.

Serengeti (Short Story) By Jordon Angelo G. Estrada, 5-A

In a dry humid part of Kenya lies a village that believed a second child in the family will bring a terrible omen to the village. A couple bore their second child. Not having the courage to kill their own son, the couple left the boy under an old Baobab tree in the wild. His mother's last words were "I'm sorry Serengeti." After that day a lioness was prowling around the lush dry bushes of the sa-vanna. There she stumbled upon Serengeti, a tiny human so fragile and vulnerable. The hunter and savage in her eyes was absent that day. Just like the mother of Serengeti, she lost a child. In her eyes, the soul of a mother reflected. She felt curious and maternal attachment to the boy, for her cubs had recently been killed by an invading lion. She brought Serengeti to the pride. The other lion-ess ridiculed her. She thought her husband will have roared to the sight of the human kid. Instead the lion accepted the kid for he knew the pain of his wife for the lost of their cubs. Years have passed. Serengeti, together with the animals in the wild, grew with a heart of lion and wisdom of an owl in a star filled night. He runs swiftly. He had learned to climb trees as fast as the baboons, and soon he had beaten his best friend Norton an elephant in a game of tug-of-war. One afternoon he was about to visit the parade of elephants where Norton belongs in the watering hole. From a distance he heard noise and gun shots. He hurried to see where it came from. Lo and behold, he saw men shooting down the elephants. He saw his friend laying on the ground bathing in his own blood and tusks ripped off from his face. The sight of the massacre angered Serengeti. As a result of that surge of pain and anger, he rallied every pack of wolves, pride of lions, family of gorillas, murder of crows, and every big and ferocious animals that can cause massive damage to anything or anyone that comes its way. Together they attacked the poachers and ravaged their bodies without showing mercy. They dragged what was left of the bodies of the poachers together with the blood stained tusks of the elephants in front of the elders hut. The people from the village gathered around him. He was standing firm on the ground. His anger and disap-pointment to the people was crawling from his heart to the dusty ground. He told the people " This men killed my friends for selfish reasons. They didn't value the lives of my animal friends. Let us always remind ourselves that we humans are not the only living be-ings in this world. Let us respect the lives of those who are living with us. If we don't, they will fight back in devastating ways we can't imagine. We were made humans to be stewards of these creations not to be savage predators that destroy the creations of the Great Creator. Let this be a lesson to all." He turned around to the setting sun together with the animals of the wild back in the sa-vanna. He had Norton's tusks in his hand and an oath in his soul that he will do everything in his life to preserve and protect the lives in the wild.

SECOND TRIMESTER 2012-2013 8

FEATURES

November 13, 2012 was considered Club Activity Night (CAN) with

Alumni. This was the time when different clubs had a chance to interact and

meet the alumni who shared their talents and expertise on a particular topic or

skill. Some served as guest speakers who shared their experiences in ANHS, the

things they learned in their respective clubs, and the application of the skills they

acquired. The alumni exuded confidence as they gave words of wisdom to stu-

dents advising that they have to strive in their studies despite the struggles they

face as students.

That night was short, but it left the students filled with hope as they

learned from the alumni who inspired them to never give up.

Some students gave their feedback about the activity.

- Eugene B. Sauquillo, 4-B (Teatro Lasalyano)

“That night inspired me as I learned about their life as ANHS students. They

give me hope and courage to pursue my dreams in life.”

- Earlyn Suela, 1-A (Uhay)

- Ivan Santuele, 2-B (Dance Club)

- Romulo De Jesus, 4-B (Samahang Kaagapay)

kanilang nakaraan.

ANHS works with other sectors

for Medical Dental Mission

By Jacqueline B. Jacinto, 5-A

ANHS Faculty and Ad-

ministrators and fifth year stu-

dents together with volunteer

doctors, dentists, nurses, police

officers, and barangay officials

worked together to ensure the

success of the Medical Dental

Mission which was held last No-

vember 16, 2012 in Guadalupe

Vuejo, Makati City.

The said activity aimed to

help the needy sectors of the soci-

ety through giving them access to

good health.

Being part of the graduat-

ing class, I felt mix emotions be-

cause this was our last reach-out.

The school taught us how

to help people in simple ways by

sharing our time and showing our

concern to others. We learned that

we should not just think of our-

selves but of people who need our

help. The people we helped

strengthened us to continue doing

things like this.

The efforts made by the

volunteers, teachers, administra-

tors, and students symbolized that

we can merge for one goal and

that is helping our needy brothers

and sisters through sharing our

time and resources as modeled by

our patron, St. La Salle.
