Purchasing and Merchandising Overview Purchasing and Merchandising has become part of the essential trade business activities in Hong Kong. This course is designed to provide students with the opportunities to learn knowledge and skills in purchasing and merchandising in a simulated environment, and develop their interests in the profession. Through various learning and teaching activities such as case studies, role play, industrial visits and practical training (e.g. using business software and developing purchasing and merchandising projects), students will learn the latest knowledge and skills in purchasing and merchandising, develop business mindset and enhance communication skills, team work and interpersonal skills. This course is organised into three modules: Special features 1. Diversified learning and teaching activities: e.g. simulation exercises, case studies, role play, professional talks and sharing, visits to logistics firms and factories in Hong Kong and/or Pearl River Delta, Purchasing and Merchandising Competition 2. Industry business software: Students will learn to operate different business software commonly used in the purchasing and merchandising field, e.g. Tradelink, MAS Trading System etc 3. Professional teaching team: Course tutors with extensive industrial experience to facilitate students’ understanding of the latest development of the related industries Purchasing and Merchandising Competition Module 1: Introduction to Purchasing and Merchandising (30 hours) Purchasing and merchandising profile Role of purchasing and merchandising in local and international trade in Hong Kong Professionalism and work ethics Contract, trade finance and documentation in purchasing and merchandising Module 2: Purchasing and Merchandising Management (75 hours) Purchasing and merchandising cycle Quality assurance Logistics management (transportation and distribution) Relationship management (internal and external stakeholders) E-commerce application in purchasing and merchandising Module 3: Purchasing and Merchandising Applications in Trade Business (75 hours) Trade business in Hong Kong and field trips Project management techniques in trade business Purchasing and merchandising project Class Arrangement Mode 1 (Remark: The final class arrangement may be subject to change with respect to the final confirmation of student enrolment) Time: (Lessons will also be scheduled during summer vacation) 3 hours per lesson scheduled for: Every Saturday 9:30 am to 12:30 pm or Every Saturday 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Venue: IVE (Kwai Chung) 20 Hing Shing Road, Kwai Chung, N.T. Mode 2 Time and venue can be flexibly arranged subject to mutual agreement between the school and the VTC Selection Arrangement Students are required to attend a group interview. Selection is based on student’s interest towards the industry; attitude; communication and language skills Course Fee $10,500 (Course fee is fully subsidized by the EDB and secondary schools) (Course fee reduction will be offered to schools participating in Mode 2) Articulation Pathways Further Studies Courses related to business administration, purchasing and supply chain management, sales and marketing, transport and logistics etc E.g.
