“In the course of time, David inquired of the Lord…”

2:1

“Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” he

asked. The Lord said, “Go up.” David asked, “Where shall I go?” “To Hebron,”

the Lord answered. 2:1

Then the men of Judah came to Hebron and there they anointed David king over the

house of Judah.2:4

The length of time David was king in Hebron over the house of

Judah was seven years and six months.

So David sent Abner away and

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the

past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one

who led Israel on their military campaigns.

And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and

you will become their ruler.’”

5:1-2

When all the elders of Israel had come to King

David at Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David

king over Israel. 5:3

David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David… And he became

more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.

5: 9-10

And David knew that the Lord had established

him as king over Israel and had exalted his

kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

5:12

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the

humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore,

under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in
