Welcome to PutneyPutney really does have it all; exceptional transport links on the London Overground, District Line and the River Buses, lots of green open spaces and, of course, the River Thames.

Appearing in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Putelie, it is the birthplace of Thomas Cromwell and hosted the 1647 Putney Debates, which took place in the Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin. Putney is also famous for hosting the start of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race which takes place in the Spring and draws people from far and wide.

The area is ideal for young singles, couples, parents and retirees, with the requisite infrastructure and amenities. There is a comprehensive mix of beautiful period houses, conversion flats and purpose built apartments and we very often help people on 4 or even 5 stops along their property journey.

Putney has something for everyone, whether it’s the shops along the High Street, the rowing clubs on the river or a good pub to whittle away a Sunday afternoon. Here are just 3 highlights that we think should not be missed, whether you are visiting or a resident here.

“Having debated a move from W2

for some time and been somewhat

reluctant to cross the river, I only wish I’d made

the move 5 years earlier. Putney is pitch perfect for family living.”

Savills Putney notebook

Putney Bridge was built in 1729 linking Fulham in the north to Putney in the south, and was the second bridge ever to cross the river after London Bridge. It is the only bridge in Britain to have a church at both ends.

SW15 has been connected to several notable figures over the years including chief minister for Henry VIII Thomas Cromwell, post War Prime Minister Clement Attlee and latterly Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg.
