JOSEPH SMITH. Scranton & Lehigh Coal Company, Brooklyn, New York, c. 1928. Vintagesilver print, 205x255 mm, white margins, agency print at verso. We can read on the van :“The Coal which satisfies”. The advertising campaign said : “Lehigh and Scranton coals haveno rivals as powerful heat producers and sustain combustion in a manner that insures thegreatest economy as household and manufacturing fuels.” Joseph Smith was not a Mormonbut a decent photo supply dealer and used lens specialist of Brooklyn, N. IRVING BROWNING (1895-1961). New York at Night, c. 1929. Browning opened acommercial photograph studio at 110 West 40th Street in 1922 or 1923; his younger brother,Sam, occasionally worked with him as a photographer.
