current and ongoing issues that we face as an industry in a fun and engaging session. e audience was split into groups and asked to brainstorm ideas on ways that our association can better communicate our issues and ideas with MLAs. Some great ideas came out of the discussion such as using social media and inviting them to our events. Alberta Executive Panel is panel was a great addition to our conference! Executives from some of Alberta’s largest insurance companies answered questions from brokers on topics that are impacting us and our businesses right now. Questions included “What initiatives are being taken to promote e-business?” and “How will your insurance company handle the increased frequency of catastrophic losses other than rate increases?” e panel was moderated by IBAA past president Dean Bailey who did a wonderful job of presenting the questions to the panel while adding some humour along the way! Our next newsletter will include the executives’ answers to the questions asked during the panel session as well as the remain- ing questions that were not discussed. Personal Excellence: Achieving Your Full Potential with Catriona Le May Doan Catriona shared her insights on achieving goals and her career highs and lows. She inspired the audience to reach further than anyone thought possible by sharing her stories as an Olympic speed skater. Her presentation delivered a message of achieving your full potential through passion, a winning attitude, commitment and teamwork. Western-emed Tradeshow & Hoedown e tradeshow was a great opportunity for brokers and company representatives to network with peers. In keeping with our western theme, there were vintage photo booths and photos on a bull. We want to thank all of our company representatives who helped make the tradeshow a big success. Everyone had a great time with the country line dancing troop and the mechanical bull. From November 16 to 17, IBAA held its annual fall conference in Calgary. e conference was sponsored by the Professional Young Insurance Brokers and open to all member brokers and industry partners. Political Relations: How to In$uence

Government with the Honourable

Kyle Fawcett

Our Saturday morning session gave us

many tips on the best ways to schedule

a meeting with our MLAs and how to

present our issues more e+ectively to

government o/cials. We thank Hon.

Kyle Fawcett, Associate Minister

of Finance and vice chair of the

Treasury Board, for being a part of

our conference and answering

questions on what a day in the life of

an MLA is like.

CAIB & CPIB Luncheon & Award

Graduates were presented with their

awards and Bipper pins by IBAA presi-

dent Scott Treasure. Congratulations to

all of the graduates!

We would like to thank everyone who

attended for making this another suc-

cessful conference and hope to see you

all next year where the event theme will
