What is PTSD? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety disorder
that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.
Symptoms: persistent frightening thoughts and memories of the ordeal and feel emotionally numb.
People who are diagnosed with the disorder and usually involved in wars.

Many Holocaust Survivors live with PTSD Bring nightmares and terrifying flashbacks instead of looking back on their
childhood with satisfaction on accomplishments of a well lived life Take sleeping pills to get rid of nightmares Depression Over protective of children Later in the years, they begin to believe the are facing danger again Hard time sleeping
PTSD affects not only survivors of Holocaust, but also their children and grandchildren
children grow up feeling guilt and a need to shield their parents from more anguish
Children are given names of dead family members-feel sense of ominous responsibility
Display lower mean cortisol levels(cortisol is a hormone that is released by the adrenal gland in response to stress)
Can be influenced in the ways in which a parent interacts with the child PTSD in a parent is a risk factor
Treating PTSD Supportive relationship- someone who WILL listen Relax the body Develop narrative about the bad experiences to allow
themselves to safely think through and know the horrors of their past
