8 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

1 Introduction Q-DAS SRL developed an automatic modular tool for the conversion of different file sources to the Q-DAS® standard ASCII Transfer Format 1.1 Why to use Q-DAS® Automatic Converter? If a certified data output conforming to the Q-DAS® format (as described in the manual Q-DAS® ASCII Transfer Format) is not available, the soft-ware Q-DAS Automatic Converter is a valid way to automatically trans-form the original output file of the third party system in the correct DFQ or DFD/DFX Q-DAS® format. In this way is possible to save time and get immediately the results of the measurements directly available for the statistical Q-DAS® software like qs-STAT®, CMM Reporting, procella® My.SPC®, etc. 1.2 Conversion Modules Actually are available more than fifty modules relative to different meas-uring systems (see List of Manufacturers). If the conversion module you need is not available, you should contact the development department of Q-DAS SRL and ask a quotation for the development of a new one (a new module is like a new driver and you just need it not the whole program). If this is the case, you should contact Q-DAS SRL and send by e-mail some examples of the output files of the measuring device to the following address [email protected]. You will receive back from our commercial department an answer including the cost and the time to implement such a integration. Please note that not all the conversion modules may be available. The number of modules activated in your package depends on the purchased license.

Main Window 9

2 Main Window From the main window is possible to access all the functionalities of the software.

2.1 License Information

In this section are visual-ized information about the owner with the rights to use

the software and the modules activated with the purchased license. 2.2 Login as Administrator

This button allows the login as administrator and enable the con-figuration of the software. Default password is 1234. It is strongly rec-ommended to change the password if different users work on the pc where the software is installed.

10 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

After login as Admin all the buttons and menu are activated. 2.3 Start / Stop conversion

These buttons allow the start and the stop of the conversion. Before running the first conversion it is necessary to configure the sys-tem and define and activate at least one conversion path. It is possible to stop the conversion also using the function key “ESC”. It is also possible to setup the system in a way in which automatically the conversion starts when the program is opened. 3 Settings This section allows the administrator to configure the software. 3.1 Consolle From the consolle is possible to completely setup the program.

3.1.1 License registration

This button allows to read and register the license file. This option allows to change the actual license with a new one (e.g. from a time lim-ited demo version to the regular license, or to add new purchased con-version modules).

Registering a license file you are prompted if the “registration is for all the users of the pc”. If the registration is for all the user, the settings will be available for any user. In the opposite the settings will be relative only to the actual user. In this last case if the software is used by a different Windows user all the settings should be done again for the specific user (note: the settings are saved in the system registry).

3.1.2 Configuration

This button allows the setup of the main system settings, like for example the source and target conversion paths and several other func-tionalities described below.

It is recommended to activate the flag “Delete chars and values from DB” 3.1.2.1 New path

The button allows to define the path from which the con-verter reads the source file (source path) and in which writes the output Q-DAS® file (destination path).

Criteria for multi-users and sharing of files from different installations of the conversion software

Settings 13

The software supports multiple conversion path, either of the same con-version module, either of different conversion modules depending on the purchased license. Once the conversion module is selected, it should be defined the source path and the destination path by clicking on the icon

. After this it must be saved the configuration through the button “Save”. Doing so the new path is added in the list of paths. It is now nec-essary to activate the new created conversion path checking the “Go” flag as shown in the below image.

In the path list there are other setting that normally are default and should not be necessary to modify except for the followings:

DB_UPL Activate the Upload support R_SYS Activate the Reporting System support FILTER Activate filter CMM Activate MCA/CMM Reporting support In-Out Not in use Backup Activate backup of source files Simplex Backup Activate backup of source file keeping the

original filename without adding date/time of the conversion

Gage name from path The name of the measuring device come from the name of the source folder

3.1.2.2 Auxiliary Data

The button allows to activate which auxiliary data (e.g. Date/time, Batch number, Machine number, etc) are to be input by the operator during the conversion of the file.

Activate / Deactivate the conversion path.

14 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

To save settings click on the button “Save”. 3.1.2.3 Upload

This button allows to define some option for the way in which the output files should be created.

It is necessary to define the path in which is installed the Q-DAS catalog file.

Activate the saving of the last re-corded auxiliary data. Note this op-tion doesn’t work if the user has not sufficient rights to write in the sys-tem registry.

Activate rquest for auxiliary data

Settings 15

These different options activate the copy or the handling of the converted files in the specific format requested by other Q-DAS®

programs. Q-DAS Upload support works in this way: before the creation of the file in the target directory, the converter check if a similar file is already in it. If a file with the same name is already in the directory, the converter stops itself until this is processed and removed by the upload program (upload program should be configured in the way that after the uploading of the file in the DB it deletes or moves that file). Activating the upload support (DB_UPL) in the path list, force the con-verter to follow these steps:

- Creation of the Q-DAS® file in the destination folder; - Copy/Move, depending on the criteria set, of the Q-DAS® file in the

folder defined in the upload support section. MCA/CMM Reporting support works in this way: for each new measure-ment, the converter makes a copy of the converted file with just the new measurement done. This option allows to the Q-DAS® MCA/CMM Re-porting software to receive a new file for each new measurement coming from the measuring device. Activating the MCA/CMM Reporting support (CMM) in the path list, force the converter to follow these steps:

16 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

- Creation of the Q-DAS® file in the destination folder (as a unique whole file in which all the measurements are appended)

- Copy of the new measurement in a new file with name based on the date/time of the conversion in the folder defined in the MCA/CMM Reporting support section. This option requires that the converter works in a automatic way so that at any new measure-ment coming from the measuring device the converter starts im-mediately the conversion and copy the file for the MCA/CMM Re-porting software.

3.2 Enhanced

This button allows to set advanced settings. Depending on the purchased conversion module is for example possible to set the allocation of the source ASCII file to the relative Q-DAS® file “K” fields. Any modify on the default settings should cause malfunction on the system, so it is strongly recommended to do any modify only with the support of Q-DAS®.

Settings 17

3.2.1 Grid

Grid allows to define the blocks of the source ASCII file and the relative allocation in the Q-DAS file.

Char ID is for internal use. File ID is connected to the source file extension (see path list). “K” field is the allocation to the Q-DAS “K” field. (in special program is used for the filename generation, e.g. Q_FILE_NAME).

Num. Chars it is the number of chars read by the converter. If 0 is set, the converter reads all the line content without limitation.

Start char Pos. Is the start char position from which the converter begins to read data.

Aux if flag is active, it means that the content of the block is written at the value level of the Q-DAS file (e.g. auxiliary data like batch number, machine number, etc.)

Row is the line number in the source ASCII file from which data is collected.

Module identify the conversion module Before doing any change in the default setting of the grid is strongly recommended to create a backup copy of the Trans-ferDB.mdb file. 3.2.2 Log files

This button activates the visualization log files. If a log file is acti-vated, converter writes in specific files error, warnings, messages, etc.

18 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

3.2.3 Catalog links

This button shows data connected with the Q-DAS cata-log file. Normally the converter writes in the Q-DAS output file the index position of the data shown in the “link to catalog” window. Some conver-sion modules are able to update also the Q-DAS catalog file during the conversion corresponding to the “link to catalog” entries.

After the setting it must be closed the window using the “Exit” button. Settings are saved automatically.

Some conversion modules are able to update also the Q-DAS catalog file directly during the conversion.

Normally the converter writes in the Q-DAS output file the index position of the data. The Q-DAS catalog data should be updated manually with same index posi-tion .

Catalog name and path.

Settings 19

3.2.4 Delete

This button allows to delete a row in the grid. 3.2.5 Filters

This button allows the definition of filters depending on which the file conversion should not be done. If a filter is active, converter checks the filename. If the filename correspond to the defined criteria, the conversion is done, otherwise the file is simply deleted. Setup of the Filter support (FILTER) in the path list and in the following mask, forces the converter to follow these steps:

- Check the file if matching the filter criteria - If criteria are satisfied, the file is moved in the defined folder or de-

leted depending on the settings.

20 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

3.2.6 Network connection

This button allows to activate the check if the network con-nection is ok on a predefined IP static address. During the conversion, converter checks if the network is available and in case of error shows a prompt message. In the main window is always shown the status of the connection.

To configure the network connection check, it should be defined a IP ad-dress on which the system test the network status and be activate the flag “Verify link to IP”. It is possible to set also a delay time for which the conversion is stopped only after that time to prevent the continuos stop-ping of the conversion in case of normal up and down of the network. To test the network connection immediately is possible to define a IP ad-dress to ping and click on the “test” button.

Settings 21

3.2.7 Reset Values and chars tables

This button allows to delete values in the data-base tables used by the converter. This function is also available in automatic way (suggested) from the “settings” window, (see 3.1.2) 3.2.8 Common aux data It is possible to define the way in which auxiliary data are written by the converter in the output Q-DAS file. If the specific “common aux data” op-tion is activated, the auxiliary data are valid for all the chars (e.g. K0009/0 Test).

3.2.9 Manual specifications

Several measuring devices do not write in the output ASCII file some information like for example nominal value, upper and lower specification, etc. Q-DAS it Automatic converter, for some specific con-version modules, enables the manually input of these missing data by the operator during the first conversion. The button allows the adminis-trator to edit these information directly from the mask shown below.

22 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

3.2.10 DB compress

This button allows to define the regular and automatic DB compression of the main database of the converter (TransferDB.mdb).

Q-DAS SRL offers also an external utility (in the program group where it is installed the converter), that should be executed manually (with con-verter off) to compress a specific DB.

Settings 23

3.2.11 Other options Other options, marked by a red arrow, were developed for specific cus-tomer requirements and for this reason are not described in this general guide.

3.3 Send data to procella® My.SPC® Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter is able to direct communicate with Q-DAS® procella® My.SPC® software. Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter creates the control plan (DFD file) from the source ASCII file of the measuring device and send measurements data (DFX file) through procella® My.SPC®. This possibility gives to the user all the options offered by the statistical software procella® My.SPC®. For example is possible to input auxiliary data and have back from pro-cella® My.SPC® any statistical alarm in real time. From procella® My.SPC®. it is also possible to assign an event to the alarmed character-istics. As a further option the communication, between Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter and procella® My.SPC®, may be defined at the end of the con-version cycle. In this case, the conversion follows the standard process and the converter compile also the measurements in the output file (DFX), but at the end, the converter starts automatically procella® My.SPC®

for the visualization of the statistical results. To activate the communication with procella® My.SPC®

you should click on the following button:

24 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

3.3.1 Configuring the communication to procella® My.SPC®

To have a communication with procella® My.SPC® it is necessary that the following conditions are satisfied:

It should be available and installed properly the software package procella® My.SPC®.

procella® My.SPC® should be configured in the right way to receive measurements without interruptions (e.g. no alarm on out of specs).

Correct executable path of procella® My.SPC® ( ) It must be active the flag to send measurements to procella® My.SPC® ( o )

3.3.2 Auxiliary data in procella® My.SPC® If the option ( ) is active and auxiliary data request is active in procella® My.SPC® it must be activated also the option ( ) that inform the con-verter to wait, before sending data, that the window is closed.

Keep the default ME 4.0

Settings 25

3.3.3 Activate procella® My.SPC® at the end of conversion Two other way to open automatically the software procella® My.SPC® are available: at the end of the conversion cycle or at the end of pallet con-version( ). In the first case after the end of the cycle conversion pro-cella® My.SPC® is opened visualizing the current measurement results. In the second case, the program procella® My.SPC® is only opened after the whole conversion of all the files in the source folder. If for example the device measures more part per time (pallett), e.g. 5 parts and pro-duce files output at the end of the complete inspection of the pallett, the converter in the first case at the end of every conversion cycle for each of the 5 files generated opens procella® My.SPC®. In the second case all the five files are converted and only at the end of the last converted file the converter opens procella® My.SPC® visualizing the current complete subgroup (pallet) results. Also with the option to activate procella® My.SPC® at the end of the con-version or at the end of pallet conversion gives to the operator the possi-bility to add auxiliary data or events in case of alarms (a posteriori di-rectly with procella® My.SPC®). 3.3.4 Close procella® My.SPC® at the end of cycle The option ( ), together with the option ( o ) allows the automatic closing of procella® My.SPC® after all the measurements are received by it and all the out of control events are confirmed by the operator. 3.3.5 Visualization of procella® My.SPC® The option ( ) allows to set some visualization options during the load-ing of procella® My.SPC®

3.3.6 User login in procella® My.SPC® The option ( ) together with the option ( ) allows to handle the user login if activated in procella® My.SPC®. This option requires that in pro-cella® My.SPC® is active the option to do the login without the users list. 3.3.7 Alarms options The options ( ) together with the option ( ) allows to define the way in which procella® My.SPC® should request the confirmation of events in case of alarms. This condition requires that in procella® My.SPC® is properly defined a catalog for the events assignment. This information

26 Q-DAS® it Automatic Converter

are written in the DFD file only at the first conversion. Any further change requires to update the setting directly in procella® My.SPC®. 3.3.8 Send sequence of keys at the end of conversion The option ( ) together with the option ( ) allows to send at the end of the communication a sequence of keys to procella® My.SPC® to force for example the execution of a specific function. It is possible to define the keys combination to be send.

NOTES All the information are transferred to procella® My.SPC® through a virtual keyboard, (virtual keyboard driver). For this scope It is necessary that procella® My.SPC® , stay with focus active and not iconized during this communication. No other application should be active during the com-munication!
