Interviews:

Our documentary follows the rules of documentary interviews as we filmed the interviews using a camera which was set-up on a tripod. The reason for us doing this was so that we could get a steady, un

moving shot of the interviewee. We set up the camera so that the interviewee's eye’s where two thirds of the way up the screen and one third across, the reason for this was so that it fit in with the normal forms and conventions, but also so that we were able to get the atmosphere and background in the location in

shot, we wanted to challenge the style we filmed our interview as normally interviews are filmed in a silent room/location with only the interviewee talking, but we wanted the atmospheric sound to add

more of a feeling to the interviewee and this helped to create the atmosphere of the hair salon. We also decided not to have the interviewer spaying the question in the documentary and instead got the

interviewee to say the question back in their answer, so that it followed the normal codes and conventions, as we thought that this works more effectively and runs smoother using this technique. We also made sure that the writing for the interview was just right so that the interviews were not too bright or too dark but just right, so that the interviewee and background was clearly visible. When filming our interviews we had to take into consideration the mise en scene of the interviews, so when doing this we tried to take this into consideration. So we decided to film our interviews where they were relevant, eg.

The hairdressers in the salon.

Vox Pops:For our vox pops we decided to follow the normal forms and conventions, by asking ordinary members of the public, our reason for this was so that we would be able to get there honest opinion on the question that we asked them, this also meant that we would get a variety of

different people from all different ages and backgrounds doing vox pops in our documentary. We also took into consideration the place where we filmed our vox pops, as we wanted the setting to link to our Documentary so that it fitted in well. We decided to do our vox pops

outside of ‘Toni and Guy’ as this is where some of our interviews with hairdressers took place, meaning that this would create a good link between the vox pops and interviews. When filming

our vox pops we used a tripod, camera and clip mic, we choose to use a clip mic so that the sound was very clear and loud compared to the sound of the busy street. We decided to film our vox pops using a camera and tripod so that we got a still, steady shot, this also meant that when filming the different people we had to keep adjusting the height of the tripod so that it

was the same height as the person, so that the camera would be on eyelevel with the subject, this makes the reader feel as if they are more connected to the person on the screen.

Graphics:When creating our graphics we tried to take into consideration a colour scheme, so that all of

the graphics which we used linked in together well, creating a theme throughout the documentary. The colour that we used was pink and white, the reason for this is because

we think that the programme will have a larger audience of girls, so we decided to use pink and white as the colour scheme to suit their tastes. We followed the conventions of a documentary by having the same graphic showing the subjects name, the first time that

they appear on screen, the reason why we did this was so that the viewer knows the persons importance to the documentary, also so they know there name and job role. For

our name graphic we created our own graphic so that it became more personal and suited the documentary better. For our graphic we added an image of a hair brush so that it was personal to our documentary. For the name graphic we added a roll effect so that

the name and graphic appeared slowly, this also made our graphic look more professional. The graphic lasted for about 4-5 seconds on the screen, this was enough

time for the viewer to read it, but meant that it wasn’t shown for too long.

Archive Footage:

We decided to use archive footage in our documentary as part of our voiceover mentioned about the impact of celebrity hair on the public, so using archive footage would allow us to show imagery that linked to what was being said. We decided to create a montage of

different celebrities video clips so that it there was something in our documentary to attract a younger audience, but also so that it linked to the media and was a good way of showing different hairstyles, both good and bad inspirations that people aspire to

look like. We also included a large clip of lady gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ the reason for this was one of the voiceovers which we used was talking about lady gaga, so we thought that it would be a good idea to have a visual to link to the voiceover, so that the viewers have something to look at. When filming the interviews, one of the questions we asked the

hairdresser was ‘What's the most popular haircut?’ and she answered ‘The Gary Barlow’, so because of this we decided to use clips of celebrities as it made it clear that

celebrities have a big impact on peoples hairstyles.

Sound:

In our documentary we used the song ‘five colours in her hair’ by Mcfly, the reason for this was to create a happy atmosphere to our documentary as it is a happy and

upbeat song. We decided to use this song because it linked to our documentary as the song is about a girl with five colours in her hair. The voiceover which we used

for our documentary was a man, who has a very soothing voice, the reason for this was so that we think that the majority of the target audience will be women, so we

think that they will prefer hearing a man’s voice, rather than a women's. As we filled the sound for the interviews and vox pops using a clip microphone it meant that when we opened the sound on premier it only can out of one headphone, so to sort this out we had to add a fill left, so that it came out of both earphones, this

meant that the sound was now stereo . One problem which we had with the sound was that when we didn’t use the clip microphone for some of the vox pops, as when there was two people in the interview as we couldn’t use the clip mic, we

had to use a sound balance on the clips so that you could hear the sound better and so that there was less background noise.
