Question three

What have you learned from your feedback?

Audience profile GenderThe gender of my audience is female. This is because they will relate to the characters. It is also a major part of the audience of indie folk. Our music video would primarily appeal to a female audience because the two performers are two ordinary girls who are coping with loss. Which

are themes that conventionally females are more likely to relate to.

Audience profile Sexuality

Gays, straights and transsexuals are a potential fan base. Loss, nostalgia and broken relationships transcend sexual differences thus widening our potential

fan base.

Audience profile Ethnicity

I have decided to target White British people in this production due to the relatability to the characters.

Audience profile location

People who live in norwich and norfolk would be more attracted by my productions because it takes place in familiar locations and they would

want to support local film makers.

Audience profile class

Middle/lower-middle class are my prime audience.

Audience profile jobs

Students/part time workers are in my audience

A potential audience of my video are people who are interested in a progressive ideology and moving away from the prejudices against gay relationships.

They may be interested in gay marriage, women becoming bishops and playing a larger role in politics.

A film which may appeal to our audience demographic is "The Danish Girl" about a transgender artist, a be fans of Bowie because of his androgynous appearance.

Audience profile Media Consumption and political views

My audience consists of 15-21 yr olds. this audience is built from relatability to our characters and the already existing audience of

the genre indie-folk. However, the themes of the relationship transcend age differences as is is about loss, nostalgia and broken

relationship therefore would widen the audience.

Audience profile Age

MethodsWhen getting feedback for my productions I used two

methods. Method 1: questionnaires were given to nine media

students in the other media group who watched my music video. I was not present.

This objective feedback allowed me to see others opinions on what I can improve on and how i have successfully created a

promotional package. Method 2: The second method I used was an online

survey posted to my Facebook, twitter, and blog. See below for spreadsheets with feedback from my surveys…

Main feedback from questionnaire

There were 9 participants 5 of which were female and 4 of which were male. Overall the male audience liked the video more than the female audience which contradicted my predictions. This is evident because on average the

males rated 0.5 higher than the females. This is an incredibly small difference and the sample group was very small so therefore the results are not entirely

accurate or reliable. The questionnaire highlighted some areas of improvement and ways I could

further enhance the strength of the promotional package. One of these areas was the performances of the actors. This was suggested by a small majority of people that I spoke to, I have taken this feedback and

decided that in future projects and in this project I should be prepared for this as a co-director. However, we did use the other group members as actors one of which had little to none experience which means that perhaps next time I

will use more experienced artists.

other feedback from method 1

3 out of 9 people commented on a “dodgy music cut” within my edit. I took this feedback and straight away edited it to fix the

“cut.” This was one of the instances when the feedback benefited the editing process and helped me learn from my mistake. This issue with the sound stemmed from a dodgy editing cut I had made where I had accidentally cut the music track as well as the

visuals. I have also got many positive comments which is evident by the

aspect of the questionnaire which had them rate 4 features of my video and how it was received out of 5.Over all the male

participants rated Higher and the best aspect of my music video is Camera Work and Editing. On the next page is a spreadsheet

showing the data that proves this.

Feedback Data

Here you can see a table showing the

ratings out of 5 per category and the mean

ratings per category.

And here is the table showing how the music video was rated depending on what gender the

participant was. I would do the same for age,

however my research failed to include any participants outside

of 16-21

This conclusively shows that the most positively received part of my production was the camera work and editing and that the male participants

liked it more by 0.1 / 5

Feedback from method 2

To get more anonymous feedback I created a Google Docs Form/survey then posted it onto Facebook, twitter, My Blog, and then emailed it to some people I know who fit into my

audience. Overall, i got back quite a positive response:

Feedback from method 2

The program I used allowed me to create a table instantly from my responses:

Feedback from method 2

The first two question was inspired by Laswell's model of uses and gratification: audiences use texts for entertainment. In my music video the editing was an aspect of appeal thus the entertainment value in my music video is the aesthetics of the mise-en-scene.

The feedback I received from the survey proves that in fact that my audience members did find many aspects of my music video that were entertaining especially the editing and cinematography. confirming the idea that a function of a text is to be entertaining.

Feedback from method 2

The third and fourth questions in my survey relate to the theory of uses and gratifications by the researchers Blulmer and Katz. This theory states that

individuals might choose and use a text as; diversion, personal relationship, personal identity or surveillance.

My feedback shows that most of the viewers thought that it reflected themselves within the production and they all thought it created a diversion from everyday

problems. proving the Katz and BLulmer Theory. The audience particularly related to the progressiveness of the gay relationship.

This ideology is thoroughly rooted into my piece.

Feedback from method 2: Print Productions

I also did the same survey for my print productions which conclusively found the same results for the theories as my other survey. The main pieces of feedback

include:

Feedback from blog comments

The majority of all of my feedback while in the production process was from students and

teachers on my blog. This was especially helpful as it allowed me to get opinions instantly as

soon as I made my work public. I decided that at every major point of editing I would upload a work in progress or a draft. This

allowed me to further see the direction I needed to take my project and work in. This was also the only method of feedback that allowed me to have a discussion with the recipient so

then I could further narrow down the problem.
