Q7Looking back at my preliminary how have I improved?

Page 2: Q7 ppttttttt

• Looking back at my prelim task i feel that i have learnt a lot. Starting with the obvious advance in the use of Photoshop skills I have also developed the ability to research far better and deeper than I ever have in the past. I think that the biggest improvement in my skills is the use of tech such as Photoshop and blogger to put across my work to the teachers and so on. Another main improvement is the fact that the project included a lot of timekeeping that I wasn’t good at to begin with.

Mise en scene.• For my prelim I was actually quite happy with how the colours

and fonts fit in with the page but I can also say that I am fairly lucky that my model for the prelim had appropriate clothing in pretty green that fit the genre. Also I feel that I should of cut around the photo in Photoshop to give it a crisper white background than I have, I have done this in the final magazine and it makes my magazine look far more authentic and real. For my contents the prelim and draft are both actually both very similar in layout but the draft again is more authentic and my final contents has a very different layout. My final contents is much better due to the fact it has multiple images and follows a convention of more colours and columns for the text.

Camera work.• As stated I think that my prelim photo turned out a good shot

as the model as it takes in the female gaze even though it isn’t as good as my final cover image because it the lighting isn’t set up very well. Also I only got one decent prelim photo hence the reason that I have the same photo on both the cover and contents which is how I learnt the importance of taking an extensive range of shots using the correct lighting and location. On the subject of location my final magazine had a range which from looking at other magazines I learnt was needed to make it have an authentic look and feel. My images on the final magazine were in black and white apart from the final contents image which stood out as it had a bust location and was in colour.

Conventions.• Over the course of the year my understanding of conventions

and how to use them in a positive manor has grown so that I have bee able to present a more professional looking piece of work than I could have at the start. I have used thirds and a three colour pallet throughout but in my final piece of work I have been able to use the golden spiral rule and have had the ability to include the conventions of contents pages. These are things are such as columns, a range of images and headings that I didn’t use when doing my preliminary task.
