Dear Parents,
Despite the challenges of our new campus not being ready, I have to stand back and congratulate our students and teachers for beginning the year with a positive attitude. I can comfortably say that the integrity of our teaching and learning programme has not been compromised despite the new campus not be available for occupancy.
You will notice that this newsletter hasn't followed the pattern of the last two years because it isn’t being sent on a Thursday. This is because Mr. Ghulam and I are away at the International Baccalaureate Regional Conference. This is an opportunity for us to ensure that we continue our commitment to life long learning and engage in meaningful conversations about best practice within IB schools. It will also give us two days to reflect on where we are as an IB World School and where the next phase of our growth will take us.
One of our goals, which you may have picked up on in many of the previous newsletters is to strengthen the home school connection.
‘Home-School Partnership - What Research Says..
One of the most effective ways to promote student growth academically, behaviorally, and socially is through a partnership that bridges the school and home together. When parents and teachers are able to openly communicate about a student, there are more opportunities for student growth between the two environments.’

Welcome Back!!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We are looking forward to a safe and healthy school year. We would like to outline some of the guidelines regarding the “Health Room” here at QA Sidra.
Medical History It is important for us to be aware of any medical diagnosis, surgeries, current medications, allergies, or any other pertinent health information that your child may have, so that we can provide the appropriate and the necessary care while he or she is at school.
Medications QA Sidra has a strict medication policy. The policy entails that all the medicines sent to school need to have a medication request form filled in, and signed by the parents. This form is available directly from the school nurse’s office. No medication from home will be given without the completion of this form. • Prescription medication needs to be brought to school in the original
container appropriately labeled by the pharmacy or doctor stating the child’sname, name of the prescribing doctor, medication name, dosage and time tobe given.
• Non-prescription medication is to be brought to school in the originalcontainer with the labels intact.
All medications must be dropped at the school nurse’s office by a parent or guardian. Students should not be in possession of or self-administer any medication unless given permission by the school nurse. The only 2 medicines provided by QA Sidra are Panadol and Buscopan. We will contact the parent before giving any of these two medicines to any students.
Phone numbers It is very important that we have current phone numbers and e-mails. If you have changed any of your contact details please let us know.
When does your child have to stay at home? It is our goal for students to attend classes every school day. However, there are times when students need to stay home primarily for their own health, and for the health and safety of other. The following are some guidelines to help the parents decide when to keep students at home:
• Body temperature 37.8 degree Celsius or higher • Flu signs (runny nose, fatigue, headache, etc…) • Vomiting • Diarrhea • Rash • Red, itchy, and painful eyes with or without secretion • Persistent coughing • Live lice.
Please keep students at home until they remain fever-free and/or free from any of the symptoms mentioned above for 24 hours without the aid of medication. QAS is a “NUT FREE ZONE”: please do not send or allow your child to bring to school or to the field trips any type of nuts (all kinds of nuts and derivatives not only peanuts – no peanut butter or Nutella, certain granola bars etc..). School Food Policy: PS: the school food is mandatory for all students, except those who have medical reasons (they need to get approval first). To end, we would like to welcome you again and wish all parents / guardians / and students a healthy, safe, and happy school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact one of the school nurses. Your cooperation is highly appreciated, Cherine Sabra Carly Daniel QA Sidra School Nurse QA Sidra School Nurse Office number: 445 45625 Office number: 4454 3076 E-mail: [email protected] Email: [email protected]

Last year we began discussions about supporting student mother tongue languages, outside of Arabic and English. We ordered library books reflecting the different languages represented in our school and we are now ready to take the next step.
We are looking for volunteer parents, who speak one of the languages below, and are willing to hold some mother tongue support classes outside of school time. The format of this is not set and will be discussed with potential volunteers. If this is something that you are interested in, please email Harish Kanabar ([email protected]) and/or Natalie Belch ([email protected])
*Please note that there are many other languages represented in our school and the below is where we have two or more students who speak a common home language.
*based on information included during the admissions application process.
