Drought slowing heavy precipitation will reach SD and MN this weekend but it will be cold too. In fact, cold enough for snow in the N High Plains and several following mornings of freezing weather eastward across the N and C Plains, Western Corn Belt and Great Lakes.
Beneficial moisture will reach the N Plains into the Central Corn Belt this weekend...two main areas needing moisture. Not so favorable will be the heavy rains and severe weather that pelts the S Plains again.
One concern across the N Plains and Western Corn Belt will be the falling temperatures and frost heading that way from CO to WI and heavy high Plains snow. Emerging spring crops, ripening wheat and livestock will be susceptible to this nasty late season snow and cold as wind chills reach the teens and more than a foot of snow falls.

The heaviest snow with the Mother’s Day Snowstorm will hit Wyoming and the Black Hills region while accu-mulating snow spreads out into the N Plains now shown as far south as NE CO, and east and north into W SD and S ND by Monday morning.
Temperatures 16 degrees below normal will bring the freeze line to the N Plains and Western Corn Belt after the Mother’s Day Storm passes. The freeze line will align from N WI to E CO by Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
