It was great to see the efforts of many of our students at the school cross country last Friday. Special congratulations go to Amarlee Vallette, Harry Willoughby, Tara Walker, Fergus Atkinson, Jada Kuras, Jye Whitton, Micaela Monzett and Nick Rutland-Davey who won their respective sections. Those students, plus all the others who came second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the events, qualified to go to the P.S.S.A. Zone Cross Country which will be held at Coolah on 25 May. Well done to all of you and keep up the training. I await with interest to see how you perform against the best runners in the zone in late May.

SRC BOOK OF THE WEEK

The Peppermint Pig is a story about Johnnie, a little pig who is the runt of a litter. Johnnie is naughty but very clever and he keeps everyone around him cheerful. I rate it:

Some Exciting Changes to the Newsletter The last SRC meeting was held on Wednesday 2 May and the students put forward some fantastic ideas. Lots of ideas were given to improve the school newsletter so keep your eye out for the new features…

EARN TO LEARN

We will be participating again this year in the Woolworths Earn to Learn Program.

When you shop at Woolworths you may be given stickers with your docket, these stickers can be sent to school with your child. They will be collected by the class teacher.

Then at the end of the set time frame they will be collected by the P&C and sent away to redeem a school reward.

This year the P&C’s aim is to pur-chase some music equipment for the school. All students participate in our school’s music program so new equipment will be much appreciated. So please send any stickers you receive to the school with your child. Each class will be responsible for collecting the stamps. So please send the stamps along to school with your students. Our aim this year is to acquire some music equipment.

Mind Challenging Weekend

Digi Ed is running a gifted and talented weekend in Dubbo at Orana Heights Public School on 2 and 3 June, 2012.

The weekend is known as ‘Mind Chal-lenge’ and was developed in response to a need for gifted and talented educational programs in regional areas. The courses run for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and are designed to challenge, extend, motivate and stimulate students’ learning. Students will be involved in activities that develop higher-order thinking, problem solving, decision-making and creativity. For more information, go to www.digied.com.au where you can see the course descriptions and enrol your child.

Last Friday proved to be a picture perfect autumn day for our annual school cross country. All students participated with enthusiasm and enjoyed their morning in the sunshine at the Cross Country.

A very big well done to all the children who participated both on your sportsmanship and your behaviour both of which were exceptional.

Congratulations to all those children who were placed in the top six in each age division. Those students will now travel to Coolah on Friday 25 May for the Zone Carnival.
