Enhance the quality of the care home learning environment by supporting the education and development needs of staff to effectively support students within this setting.
Contribute to quality of care provided for older people in care homes through sign posting practice learning opportunities for nurses and support staff.
Support the development of both new and experienced mentors and those in wider practice education support roles.
Contribute to collaborative working between the care homes, the NHS and Education Institutions.
Maximise the contribution that care homes make to the development of the future nursing workforce across sectors.

Nursing and MidwiferyDementia focused activity - examples
An RCN Dementia Bursary award has been used to assist care home staff in promoting a person centred approach to caring for people with dementia
A group of facilitators are exploring anticipatory care planning initiatives with their care homes
Facilitators are collaborating with AHP colleagues to build activity networks in care homes in relation to dementia
Dementia care initiatives being shared and adopted in care homes through forums such as Gerontology Interest Group, for example therapeutic singing groups
Facilitators have had national training session with NHS Dementia Consultant Nurse, cascading learning across their own regions
