APPLICATIONS FOR BRIT-LUBES LUBRICANTS IN THE
QUARRYING INDUSTRY
The lubricant recommendations listed below provide details of the most cost-effective products, and are
applicable to all makes of machines and equipment.
Assembly Grease will overcome the difficulties of stripping down units, which have been in service under
conditions of dust contamination and moisture. e.g.
Loader Bar Picks
All Assembly Screws and Nuts
Valves
Splines and Keyed Shafts
Excavator Shovel Pins
Tapered Dog Clutches
Multi-Tef Grease MP2/3is a water-resistant grease with Teflon® to
combat wear and seizure under starved or other arduous lubrication conditions, e.g.
Service lubrication of excavator shovel pins
Service lubrication of tapered dog clutches
All kinds of plain bush bearings subjected to high loads and dust
For nuts on coupling studs, pretreat with Copper Antiseize Compound prior to fixing, this will prevent the
nut seizing on stud.
ROCK LOADERS
Gear Heads: For bedding in of gear teeth, spray with Chain Lube + while assembling.
Mechanical Haulage Unit: Apply Assembly Grease to the worm and wheel teeth to prevent pick up and
reduce wear.
Pins & Shafts (Drive fit or secured by H T Screws):
When assembled with Assembly Grease, these units are
easily removed on overhaul or repair.
Drive Shaft Dog Spines: Lightly coat with Assembly
Grease to facilitate easier fixing and removal.
Spiral Bevel Gears: The application of Open Gear
Grease 2.5 or Chain Lube + on assembly will give

superior bedding in of the teeth and prevent initial pick
up and scoring.
COAT DRILLS
Feed Screws: Smear screws with Assembly Grease to provide easier and regular feed.
HEAVY VEHICLES
Wheel Bearings: Load-Guard
Threaded components subjected to seizure: Copper Antiseize Compound
PNEUMATIC EQUIPMENT
Radial Air Engines: Assemble piston and cylinders using Assembly Grease to prevent scuffing and pick-up
suffered during running in.
Air Turbine Reversing Gearbox: To give trouble-free running under arduous conditions assemble gears
and bearings with Assembly Grease. Use an oil containing molybdenum disulphide as the service
lubricant.

CONVEYORS
Belt Type Conveyor Rollers, Support Rollers, Drive
Drum Bearing: For lubricating the above under
conditions of dust and/or water, to prevent wear and
breakdown, apply Load-Guard by grease gun.
Cable Drive Gearbox: These units are usually running
on full load for prolonged periods, and may suffer
from severe pitting and rapid wear on the gear teeth.
Brit-Lube Synthetic Gearbox Grease 000 could be
used if the gearbox manufacturer recommends the use
of a fluid grease as opposed to an oil.
CRUSHERS
Eccentric shaft bearings are lubricated with
Vibration Resistant Grease 2.
VIBRATING SCREENS
Eccentric Bearings, Support Pads
Eccentric bearings, support pads and other points can
suffering from a rapid rate of wear, these components
should be lubricated with Vibration Resistant Grease 2.
When overhauling, assemble units with Assembly Grease.
Motor Bearings
On certain machines the eccentric drive is directly from
the motor shaft, this puts a heavy and irregular load on the
motor bearings. Using Load-Guard in these bearings can
prevent overheating and consequent loss of grease.

CRANES & GRABS
Plain Bearings - To increase the life of these bearings and so keep
the crane in commission longer, use Load-Guard.
Slewing Ring – Open Gear Grease 2.5 or Chain Lube + will provide
a long-term efficient water-repellent lubricant and so extend gear
life.
Grab Pins: Pretreat Open Gear 2.5 with Assembly Grease on
assembly, followed by Multi-Tef Grease MP2/3 as the service
lubricant.
BALL MILLS
Girth Gears - Chain Lube + Aerosol
Trunnion Bearings - Multi-Tef Grease MP2/3
Couplings - RS Grease
WINDING GEAR
Main Pinion Shaft Bearings: Multi-Tef Grease MP2/3
Gear Teeth: Smear with Open Gear Grease 2.5 or Chain Lube + on assembly to give ideal bedding-in and
increase ‘life’ by eliminating initial pick-up and scoring.
Open Gears: To prevent pitting etc, of gear teeth, use Open Gear Grease or Chain Lube + .
Sheave and Guide Pulleys: These are exposed to all weather conditions and are not easily accessible.
Load-Guard will give adequate service lubrication.
Wire Ropes: Rope-Guard, applied by brush, provides a thin but lasting lubricating film that protects the
inside and outside of the rope from corrosion. Also the thin film does not fling off nor does it attract dust
and dirt. Pre-treat all wire ropes with Multi-Lube to provide a moisture free, non-stick coating to ropes

SWITCHGEAR
Cams
To prevent scuffing and reduce wear on cam face, apply a thin film of Assembly Grease then lubricate with
Chain Lube +.
FORK LIFT TRUCKS
Masts: To avoid heavy wear and scuffing, smear the lift masks
with Assembly Grease.
Wheel Bearings: Lubricate wheel bearings with Load-Guard,
which will provide a water-resistant long lasting lubricant.
Multi-Lube - The Multi-Lube 1 litre trigger spray is the ideal “All In 1” Maintenance Spray for use in
Quarries. Great penetrating action, displaces water, lubricates, and has the added benefits of Teflon®
