2018 Scholarship Award Winner, William Glen Prezens The Umoya Energy Scholarship Programme launched two years ago to provide tertiary education funding for youth, thereby contributing towards human resource development. We focus on study fields considered critical for our country’s development such as: Teaching, Engineering, Natural and Social Sciences, Environment and Nursing. Congratulations to the following 2018 Scholarship Award applicants and we wish them well with their studies: William Glen Prezens (Hopefield), MB ChB in Medicine at Stellenbosch University. Meshay Williams (Hopefield), BED in Intermediate Phase Teaching at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Nizelia Martha-Lee Blaauw (Hopefield), BED in Foundation Phase Teaching at at Cape Peninsula University of Technology Danielle Jasray Josephs (Langebaan), BED in Senior phase & FET Teaching at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Sbashle Edwinita Ntuli (Vredenburg), BSc in Chemical Biology at Stellenbosch University. During 2017, a total of 115 Hopefield homes received electrical upgrades, 104 homes received plumbing upgrades and new ceilings were installed in 115 houses, as part of Umoya Energy’s Home Improvement Project. The project has been benefiting the community of Hopefield since 2013, with phase 2 of the Project making use of local contractors to complete the upgrades. The Umoya Energy Scholarship Programme launched two years ago to provide tertiary education funding for youth, thereby contributing towards human resource development. We focus on study fields considered critical for our country’s development such as: Teaching, Engineering, Natural and Social Sciences, Environment and Nursing.

Congratulations to the following 2018 Scholarship Award applicants and we wish them well with their studies:

HOLVLEI PRIMARY VISITS BUTTERFLY WORLDWith the support of Umoya Energy, the learners of Holvlei Primary School were able to go out on an educational excursion to Butterfly World at the end of last year. Lectures at Butterfly World’s Education Centre are aligned with the school subjects Natural Science and Life Skills, where learners are taught about the habitats and life cycle of different kinds of animals as part of their curriculum. During the excursion, learners received a lesson about the different kinds of animals like spiders, lizards, snakes, tropical fish etc.

The assistance in transport costs was part of Umoya Energy’s Corporate Social Investment.

Local businesses are invited to apply for the Umoya Enterprise Development Programme by collecting forms from our local office.

Criteria for applications are as follows:

Exempted Micro Enterprises or Qualifying Small Enterprises, which are 50% owned and controlled by Black People or Black Women; or: 50% owned and controlled by Black People or Black Women, with a BBBEE Recognition Level of between Level 1 and Level 4, as determined by the Department of Trade and Industry BBBEE codes of Good Practice, 2007.Based or operating in Hopefield or the towns within the Saldanha Bay Municipality.In operation for more than 1 year.Not participating in any other Enterprise/Supplier Development Programme with another organisation.A registered business with CIPC/CIPRO,Entrepreneurs that are passionate about business success.
