As we draw close to the end of the liturgical year, the readings from Scripture call us to
reflect on how we use our potential and the gifts God has given to us in life. How would you
access your use of the God given talents you possess so far in your life? Have you been
satisfied in what you have done, or are you disappointed? Are you ready to face God and be
accountable for what you have done? If our response to the questions are no, then the
challenge for us is to make the most of what we have, whatever that is, and start being productive by sharing our gifts with
others and making good use of the gifts we possess. We want to be prepared for the second coming and not be in the position
of trying to make up for lost time because we came up too little and too late in accounting for what we have done in our life.
I want to thank Jane Dunne and the Ministers of Care for sponsoring our Anointing Mass last week. It was an uplifting and
spiritual celebration for our parish community. I felt God’s healing presence in our midst. The music and harpist truly
enhanced our celebration. It was wonderful to see so many receive the sacrament. Thanks to all who participated and
especially to the Ministers of Care who helped to get he word out and invite the sick and the homebound and bring them to the
Church for this special occasion.
Our 2nd graders in School and Saturday School of Religion survived 1st Reconciliation. My thanks to Ms. Smierciak, our
teachers and catechists who helped to prepare them for this sacrament. I am grateful to our parents for their support and
cooperation in helping our children get ready for this special day.
This Tuesday, a new leader will be installed to guide the Church of Chicago. Archbishop Blasé Cupich will become the 9th
Archbishop of Chicago. Our best wishes and prayers are extended to Archbishop Cupich as he begins his ministry to the
Archdiocese of Chicago. Ad Multos Annos!
Don’t forget to take a “Brown Bag” this weekend and return it next week to support the St. Vincent de Paul’s annual
Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Next week, the representatives from Bethlehem Woods will have their wood carving display in the breezeway after all the
Masses. An opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas list.
Have a good week.
God Bless,

“Teach Christ” with Scripture We invite you to join Fr. Kevin McCray and your fellow parishioners for a discussion of the Sunday readings at 8:30AM each Sunday morning. We will meet in the usher’s room of our Church for about 30-45 minutes to discern how these teachings of Jesus affect our every day life. To prepare for next Sunday’s Word you may read and ponder the following:
Scripture passages for November 23rd: First Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17 Can you trace the path of grace in your life today? Does God seem far or near lately?
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28 Which parts of your life are surrendered to the King of the Universe, and which are you still determine to micro-manage?
Gospel: Matthew 25: 31-46 How many acts of kindness stand between you and your Maker? Plot your course accordingly.
Please join us for the new adventure in learning so that we might “Teach Christ” with Scripture.
We look forward to see you there!

We would like to provide food baskets for our own before passing along the food we receive to local pantries & shelters.)

Queen of Martyrs Teachers Lead the Way
Eighth Grade teachers Mrs. Pat Pekelnicky and Mrs. Julie O’Connor lent encouragement and support as four of their students represented Queen of Martyrs School at the “2014” St. Rita Academic Bowl. 8th graders Dan, Matt, Aidan, and Jack were drilled on many topics as they competed against students from
several area schools. Mrs. Pekelnicky and Mrs. O’Connor cheered on the boys as they did a wonderful job representing Queen of Martyrs School in a impressive showing of academic skill and knowledge.
Mrs. Pekelnicky and Mrs. O’Connor are also moderators of the Knit and Purl Club. Several Queen of Martyrs students have been working under the direction of these fine teachers who have taught them the art of knitting and crocheting. The students will now put their skills towards a service project. Their goal is to make over
thirty pairs of baby booties that will be donated to the Courage Program. The students along with their moderators plan on delivering the baby booties in December.
The Knit and Purl Club meets once a week and is one of three clubs offered as after school activities moderated by teachers at Queen of Martyrs. In addition to knitting and crocheting, Q of M students can participate in Games Galore, a board game club for Primary students and the Art Club that offers a variety of
art projects to all age levels. Many students take advantage of these great programs and enjoy the camaraderie and new skills that come with being involved.
Advent by Candlelight Please join Women’s Ministries in preparing for the Christmas Season this year at Advent

All women of the parish, Altar & Rosary Society women, School Mothers and Youth Ministry are invited to attend this free event, along with your female family members and friends. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and coffee and dessert will be served after the program. Please reserve your spot after the weekend Masses on November 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th, or by contacting JoAnne at 773-520-7454 ([email protected]) or Margie at 773-842-4104 ([email protected]).
A big thank you to everyone for all your prayers, cards and well wishes during my recent illness. I sincerely appreciate all of them. I’m home now and slowly but surely recovering. Thanks again Jane Lamm
