Early CareerIt was 1980 when Tarantino created his first notable works. After meeting Lawrence Bender at holly wood part Tarantino was encouraged to create his of screenplay, although the final reel of the film was almost completely destroyed in a lab fire during editing (citation needed) it eventually made it past production as True Romance. Of course Tarantino’s real success came around 1992 as he released Reservoir Dogs and it was screened at the Sundance Film Festival. Tarantino almost instantly struck stardom, Reservoir Dogs was a big hit and got very good reviews his use of dialogue to drive his movie was so well-scripted and unique he soon became one of the most iconic gangster-film directors and continues to produce stunning movies.

Peak Of SuccessIn 1994 Tarantino peaked success with the release of the wonderful and amazing ‘Pulp Fiction’. His use of multiple narratives to tell one big intertwining story was outstanding. His use of costume shots, character and dialogue made you feel empathy with all characters despite their paths crossing and some being enemies of each other. His portrayal of the mob and their influence of the public was exaggerated through the use of these multiple narratives and relationships between characters emphasised through specific shot types. He also showed the struggles of being part of the mob and the effects that has on what a mobster can and can’t do on his own accord. All put together Tarantino achieved an amazing production that is currently ranked 5th best film in the world (IMDb).

Tarantino Away From GangsterTarantino is best known for his gangster works but he also created many

other films of varying genres. Diverging from a rich story, intertwining narratives and dialogue driven plot Kill Bill was one of Tarantino’s first divergences from the gangster genre. When watching this film I honestly didn’t know whether it was to be a taken as a joke as much as Tarantino uses excessive amounts of blood and violence to drive the story line. One thing, however, Kill Bill was praised for was the well choreographed fight scenes. Use of harnesses and scaffolding meant people could run faster, jump higher and fly-kick for longer. A revolution in action films and completely unique form Tarantino’s other work. The iconic yellow jumpsuit of the main character shows how costume can have a massive impact on your brand and your message. Tarantino continues to work on other genres as well and I can’t wait to see his new creations.

Conclusion: What I have LearntFrom this research into Tarantino I realise that everything is of equal and

pinnacle importance when creating a film. From the get go your costume, mise en scene and shot types can define your brand, what you are know for and whether people then view you as any good. When making my final piece I will consider everything more carefully to really send the message I desire and be careful to define my movie in the way I want it to be perceived.

Tarantino looking ‘swag’.
