My magazine cover uses conventions of real media products that relate to an indie genre. It uses bold and dark colours for the fonts and images. This is effective because it allows them to stand out and appeal to the masculine target audience. It uses the principle of thirds and the route of the eye layout to create an effective layout for the cover. It also meets the conventions by using effective images of indie bands wearing masculine, casual clothes with stern expressions in a casual and relaxed stance to relate to other magazines. Another convention that is met in my magazine is the use of media aspects such as a coverstory, coverlines, pull quotes and a kicker. These are all effective and conventional for any magazine, not just one of an indie genre. My magazine also has a barcode and a price at the bottom right so it is the last item to be seen on the magazine cover.

Contents Page
Contents PageMy magazine contents page uses a variety of conventions of an indie magazine contents page. It has a recognisable and bold masthead to allow the readers of the magazine to see that the contents is from the magazine “Revolt”. It also links the contents page to the front cover of the magazine. My magazine contents page also has a clear heading in the top left to explain the contents page by using the phrase “Inside this week”. The content of my magazine has also been shown clearly on the right side of the magazine, so the audience can clearly identify what parts of the magazine fit into what category of magazine pages. Another conventional aspect is the advert at the bottom, showing how you can subscribe to the magazine. This is effective as it allows the publishing company to persuade more people to buy the magazine. The bold sans serif fonts and colour scheme are conventional because they match with the indie genre and appeal to the target audience. The article is effective and conventional because it is used to draw in the reader and make them want to read more of the magazine. The image is effective and conventional because it shows a live show. This creates a feeling of energy and excitement for the magazine, therefore appealing to the magazine reader. The date and issue number is conventional as it is essential for any magazine.

Double Page Spread
Double Page SpreadMy magazine double page spread is very conventional and meets the indie genre. The headline is conventional as it meets the colour scheme of the magazine and stands out against the background. My article is broken up by a pull quote that makes it conventional because it allows the reader to see the pull quote firstly and be encouraged to read on in the article. It also breaks down the text and makes it easier to read. The article also starts with a kicker, making the magazine conventional and allows the start of the article to stand out and be recognised. The consistent and bold colour scheme is a very effective and conventional aspect to my double page spread. It allows my double page spread to meet the indie genre but also allows the page to relate to the other magazine pages and appeal to the target audience. The indie band is conventional because the article is about the band, therefore showing the audience what they look like and appealing to them. The smaller image captioned allows the reader to see a snapshot of an event that is discussed within the article, giving them visualisation of it. The standfirst is conventional because it provides the reader with extra information on the article before reading it to encourage them to read on. It also contains a byline to inform the reader of who is the writer.
