Challenge conventions

A way in which challenged the conventions of our genre was by, including a Hollywood style title sequence. This is an example of post-modernism and not a very conventional feature of Grime music videos. This it can be said is evident as it is featured in a Lady Gaga videos, who belongs to the pop Genre. The title sequence is conventionally seen in Hollywood film intros, we decided to use it because we wanted audience to know the genre of our music video.

Following conventions

A way in which we followed the conventions of our genre is with using a pan in our intro. Here we can see two different ways of using the pans in a grime music video, the grime artist Griminal has used his pan in a upward direction whereas in my video we use the pan in a horizontal direction. Furthermore, we can see that this is conventional feature of my music video of the Grime genre.

Following convention

In our music video, especially in the opening scenes we shot our video in very urban locations, to show our music video was following the conventions of the grime genre. Here we can see from the Grime artist Giggs music video that it is conventional in grime music videos to shoot in urban locations as this gives the artist a more down to earth and tough representation.

Following conventions

Here we can see my artist on the right performing in a recording booth, this is again conventionally seen in a music video from the Grime genre. The example I have used is K Koke’s music video called “music in my veins”. This K koke music video like all his other music videos is very conventional of the grime genre, so for my music video to have similar features in some scenes shows we have followed the conventions of the grime genre in certain scenes.

Challenged conventions

Another way in which we challenged the conventions of our genre is with the representation of our female actress. Here we can see that the low angle shot makes her look more superior in the relationship, this is unconventional of the Grime genre. We can also see this representation of a actress in Common’s “ Come Close” music video, his music can be categorised in the RnB genre, which our music video also has as there are singing parts to our music video.
