MY MUSIC MAGAZINE IS TARGETED TOWARDS YOUNG ADULTS AGED AROUND 16-25.THE AGE GROUP IS REPRESENTED TO BE CONFIDENT AS WELL AS LOOKING ‘IN-CONTROL’ IN THE SENSE THAT THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND THEM.

IN MY MUSIC MAGAZINE, THE YOUNGER AGE RANGE IS REPRESENTED, THEY ARE

REPRESENTED THROUGH THE FEATURED ARTISTS WHICH I HAVE CREATED. THE MAIN

ARTIST BEING ‘AMELIA CRANSTOUN’WHO IS A 17 YEAR OLD SOLO

ARTIST. I WANTED THE READERSOF MY MAGAZINE TO BE ABLE TO

RELATE TO THE CONTENT OF IT,I THOUGHT THEY COULD DO

SO TO AN ARTIST AROUNDTHEIR AGE AS ITS TARGETED

TO 16-25 YEAR OLDS

I HAVE TAKEN A RANGE OF PHOTOS IN MULTIPLE PHOTOSHOOTS, I DECIDED TO USE 2 DIFFERENT MALES ASWELL AS 4 DIFFERENT FEMALES IN MY MAGAZINE.

THREE OF THE GIRLS ARE IN A BAND, TWO OF WHICH ARE REPRESENTED TO BE VERY HAPPY WHERE AS THE OTHER FEMALE IS REPRESENTED TO BE VERY SPOILT AND JEALOUS.

THIS LEADS TO A NEGATIVE GENDER REPRESENTATION OF THE STEREOTYPICAL TWO MOODS OF A FEMALE. THIS ALSO REPRESENTS MY MUSIC GENRE OF R&B. WOMEN SINGERS FROM THE CATEGORY ARE VERY ‘DIVA-LIKE’.

THE MAIN FEATURED ARTIST IN MY MAGAZINE IS AMELIA, THROUGH THE ARTICLE I HAVE WRITTEN A SHORT STORY ABOUT HER AND HER BAND MATES SHORT MOMENT OF FAME WITH AN INTERVIEW ABOUT WHAT SHE REALLY THINKS, THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT HOW SHE WANTS TO SPLIT FROM THE BAND AND BECOME SOLO. THIS REPRESENTS YOUNGER AGE GROUPS IN A NEGATIVE WAY, TO ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES BUT ON ANOTHER HAND POTRAYS THEM TO BE DETERMINED WHICH SHOWS A POSITIVE REPRESENTATION IN THE SENSE THAT THEY SEEK THEIR GOALS.

SOCIAL CLASS IS REPRESENTED… THE SOCIAL CLASS REPRESENTED IS HIGHER CLASS, AS THE STORY ON THE DOUBLE PAGE SHOWS THEY CAME SECOND ON X FACTOR AND RECEIVED A RECORD DEAL, THEY ALSO RECEIVED MONEY.

THE WAY IN WHICH THE GIRLS STANCE IS AND THEIR PROXEMICS ON THE IMAGE ON THE DOUBLE PAGE SHOWS THEM TO BE VERY CLOSE FRIENDS (ONCE UPON A TIME)… ALTHOUGH ONE GIRLS STANCE IS MUCH MORE CONFIDENT IN THE WAY SHE IS POSING, SHE HAS HER ARMS FOLDED. SHE LOOKS A LOT MORE FIERCE THAN THE OTHER GIRLS WHICH BACKS UP THE STORY NEXT TO THE IMAGE.

IN REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS WHICH I HAVE RESEARCHED INCLUDING MUSIC MAGAZINES SUCH AS Q, ROLLING STONES AND VIBE, WOMEN ARE PORTRAYED IN A ‘SEXUAL’ NATURE… THESE MAGAZINES ARE USUALLY TARGETED TOWARDS BOTH GENDERS BUT NOT TEENS SUCH AS 15 YEAR OLDS

HOWEVER IN MY MAGAZINE I DID NOT WANT TO PORTRAY WOMEN IN THIS WAY, I ALSO WANTED TO CREATE A MEDIA PRODUCT WHICH WOULD BE TARGETED AND AGE APPROPRIATE FOR TEENS. I CHALLENGED THE ‘SEXUAL NATURE’ WHICH WOMEN WERE BEING STEREOTYPED. I DID SO BY CONSIDERING MY MISE ON SCENE. MY FEMALE MODELS ARE WEARING MUCH MORE CASUAL AND ‘ON TREND’ FASHION INCLUDING SIMPLY LEGGINGS AND A TOP. ALONG WITH A LACK OF EXTREME MAKEUP. THE CLOTHING WORN COVERS ALL ASPECTS OF THE MODELS BODY OTHER THAN ON ONE SMALL IMAGE WHICH SHOES A TINY BIT OF HER STOMACH AND HER ARMS WHICH ISN’T ‘SEDUCTIVE’
