Hardware How we used it Pros Cons Evidence

Apple Macs We used this to do work on blogs and make the products themselves. We also saved all our products and footage on them.

It is a big clear way to present work and makes it easier to see. We can also connect them with scanners, memory card from the cameras...

It can take a while to get used to using macs, and they can be hard to use when they are new to the user.

Stills Camera We used the stills camera for digipak and website images.

This camera was good quality and for taking straightforward photos it was easy to use.

However it could be hard to use when unfamiliar or doing something more complicated, such as taking a lot of rapid photos (which we used for the ‘stop motion section) and altering the exposure in the studio.Sometimes the image may look different on the camera to on the mac, and would then have to be edited using photoshop. It was also quite big and when on location was in danger of being damaged.

Moving Camera We used this for the music video footage and podcast footage.

This was easy to use, was of good quality and was small and easy to move and carry around.

You must check the camera has started recording, because there were a few times when things were missed because the camera had not started filming.

Tripod We had a tripod with us at every location and shoot day, for both stills and moving image footage.

This meant we could have steady footage and could set the camera up and have the same framing for different shots.

On locations shoots such as the walk up Pen Hill the tripod was awkward to carry around and due to the wind we couldn’t set it up then go to

move the models to where we wanted them as it would fall over.

Acer Laptop I used this to access my blog and work at home.

Scanner We used it for flats plan, we were able to draw out each shot for the animatic and put them in sequence as the video would be, minutes and ideas from our group meetings, keep a record of model release forms once signed...

We used this to do work by hand then upload it to the computer and put on our blog and share ideas between the group.

After unloading something to a machine it cannot then be editted.

iPhone and windows phone We used these to take photos of ideas and share with each other within the group. We also used them to access our blogs.

This meant we could do work on the move. We could also keep in contact with the group during planning and when on location.

The quality of these photos weren’t very good quality. We could only used our phones when we had signal, which was a problem when we were travelling to the hill shoot, because signal wasn’t very good.

Studio Lights We used this to light the photography studio, when doing the shoot with the ‘girl’, individually for the band and as a full band.

We could alter the dimness, brightness and shadows of the lighting to comply with the camera and model.

This was difficult to alter and get right, we would have to make the changes then test it by taking a photo. It was also hard to tell which lights needed to be changed.

Board Operated Lights We used this for the lighting of the gig in The Space.

We could have different coloured and placed lights to create a gig atmosphere and they could be operated from the back by someone who could see the full stage and audience. They were also very easy to use as they were laid out on a board.

External Hard Drive We used this to backup our work, in case our computers crashed or our work was lost.

We always had a copy of our work.

This could be easily lost as it is fairly small.

Software How we used it Pros Cons Evidence

Prezi We used this for audience research, textual analysis, present photos….

This program is online so can be accessed from any computer using my account. It is also easy to use and uses a simple layout.

This application cannot be accessed without internet connection.

Google Slides I used this for Representation of gender, Audience research, Pitch, Digipak research...

This program is online, so i could access it from any machine, and is easy to use.

Page 4: Question 4 technology

Google Docs I used this for Call Sheets, Questionnaire, Storyboard...

“. I could also include long word documents without taking up a lot of room down the blog.

Slideshare I used this to convert Slideshows and Word documents and give an embed code so I could put it onto my blog.

Having an embed code meant the document would appear in a form that could be viewed straight away rather than a link, and looked tidy on my blog.

Sometime the document wouldn’t upload and I would have to try again later.

Google Forms and Sheets We used this for the questionnaire.

We used this to send the questionnaire to our audience and using Sheets we could look through the feedback on a spreadsheet.

When uploading this information to my blog, it wasn’t till after I had spend time putting it into a work document and uploaded it to slideshare, that i found there was a way of presenting it on my blog through google sheets. So it can be hard to use when you are unfamiliar with it.

Gmail We used this to send the questionnaire around to the audience. We also used this for the group to keep in contact. I also used it for doc, slides… as any google program uses a gmail account.

This is accessible through our phones.Using our college accounts we automatically have access to each other's email address.

Page 5: Question 4 technology

Facebook We used facebook to communicate between the group and the band. We also included it in the website to advertise the band.

We could access this through our phones and we could have group chats so we could communicate with everyone at once.

We could only use this when we have wifi or internet connection.

Twitter We used this to get in touch with Pete and Jake to receive feedback on our video. We also included a twitter feed on our website.

This meant we could get in touch with a quickly receive feedback from people we don’t necessarily know or have a contact for.We can access this using our phones.

This did mean that anyone could see what we sent and their responses.

Screengrab/Print Screen I used this to capture images of production and put them into my blog.

This helped my to record my progress of the products and record details that I could later refer back to, for example the effect/filter on the digipak had to be the same, so I took a record of each point on colour charts...

When using print screen it would capture the whole screen rather than just the focussed point.

Moonpig We used this to create the ‘mug’ with the image of the band on as merchandise for the website.

Dafont We used this to download the font for the digipak ‘White Elephant’.

We had a wide range of fonts to look through and choose from.

When opening the digipak on a different machine I would have to re-download the font for it to open on the document. We also then couldn’t use the font on the website, which would have been effective and continuous.

Page 6: Question 4 technology

Pinterest We used this to make a collage of images of the props and costume.

We could added a caption to the images to justify or explain why we would use each thing.

To include this in our blogs we had to use screengrab, which meant if it was changed, it wouldn’t update by itself.

Youtube We used this to watch tutorial videos to improve all of our products and get to know our software. We also uploaded both our video and podcast to it.

It has an embed code which can be added to our blogs and appear as a video rather than a link.

Due to copyright reasons our music video is in danger of being removed from youtube.

Vimeo We used this to upload the practice ‘Stop motion’ video.

“ You must have an account with vimeo to use and view videos.

Photoshop We used this to create the digipak and edit photos for the website.

This program is used professionally and using youtube tutorials we were able to use it to do more difficult and effective things.

It can be difficult to use when you’re not used to it and can take time to get to grips with.

Final Cut Express We used this to create the video itself then uploaded it youtube.

“ “

Wix We used this to create our website.

It is easy to use, and is professionally used so therefore reliable.

Only one person can edit the website at a time without overriding anyone else.

Blogger I used this to record my work. The layout of blogs isn’t always tidy and it can to difficult to organise posts and putting them in order. For example photos could not be put next to each other and had to be spaced out, which looked messy. When inserting photos to my blog I could not ‘copy and paste’, they had to be saved images, which meant ‘print screens’ had to be saved somewhere else before they were put in.Also when inserting a photo you cannot crop them on the blog, so have to be edited elsewhere first.

Horizon I used this at home to access my college account and my documents on the system.

This was very useful as I could get hold of any photos or work on my account and access programmes such as Photoshop, which I don’t have no my own computer.

Using this it could be slower than just using a usual computer.
