Protagonist

The gender of this character is male. This is a convention from real media texts as the majority of protagonists are male e.g. Halloween, Scream and Friday 13th. This conveys patriarchy and dominance of the male character.

From the way that the character dresses, it shows that he is of a middle class background. The props used such as the Canon camera and IPhone portray signs of wealth and comfortability. The age of this character is early 20’s opposing the fact that the majority of leading male characters are in their mature years.

The ethnicity of this character is Black/African. This subverts the idea of the leading character being a white male in slasher movies such as Phsyco, Scream and Halloween however, this also encourages the stereotype of Black/African characters being into crime.

Victim

The class of the victim is seen as working class/student. She is dressed casually without showing any signs of wealth like the protagonist.

The age of the character is 18-20. She is portrayed as vulnerable teenager as she is sitting in a isolated park unaware of the situations soon to take place. She is on her phone which is a code and convention of teenagers always being on their phones. The gender of the character is female. This reinforces the conventions of the victim being a female and of the ‘inferior’ and more vulnerable gender. This can make the audience experience more fear towards the characterThe ethnicity of this character is Indian. This contradicts the generic conventions of a white victim used in slasher movies such as Scream and Saw.
