History of Operations ManagementThe history of Operations Management can be traced back to 5000 B.C when

Sumerian priests developed the process of recording inventories, loans, taxes and

business transactions, followed by 4000 B.C Egyptians in the process developed

during building of pyramids. The main historical event which can be considered

as the launching pad of the discipline is the Industrial Revolution. The process of

division of labour facilitated the process of Operations Management.

What do Operations Managers do?The primary task of the Operations Manager is effective utilization of existing

resources in order to meet the requirements. The Operations Management pro-

fessionals have to play the role of ensuring the execution of a project right from

creating the plan to its implementation. Multitasking abilities are required for those

Master in Business Administration or Post Graduate Diploma in Manage-

ment is a two-year full-time programme. An aspirant of MBA in Opera-

marks in aggregate. However, for entrance exams like XAT and MAT do not have
