Quick News April 19, 2012 Five THS Students Met Qualifications for Nat’l Merit Scholarship Program! Tippecanoe High School has five juniors that met the qualifications for the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Richard Andrews, Jonathan Lin, Cesira Miconi, Tyler Prentice, and Samuel Wharton. They are in the top 50,000 students out of more than 1.5 million students who took the test! Congratulations! Chess Clocks Purchased from Tipp Foundation Grant Thanks to a generous grant from the Tipp Foundation the high school chess club was able to purchase chess clocks. The chess clocks will be used during club meetings, tournaments, and challenge matches between neighboring schools. Thanks to the Tipp Foundation for supporting chess in our schools! Chess Clocks Purchased from Tipp Foundation Grant

Thanks to a generous grant from the Tipp

Foundation the high school chess club was able

to purchase chess clocks The chess clocks will

be used during club meetings tournaments and

challenge matches between neighboring

schools Thanks to the Tipp Foundation for

supporting chess in our schools

Cole Shinkle Wins Winter Chess

Tournament

Cole Shinkle is the winner of the 2012 Winter Chess Tournament The

winter tournament was open to all HS students and staff

SUMMARY The production is a family-friendly retelling of the story of Joseph and his eleven brothers as he is

sold into slavery in Egypt but due to his ability to interpret dreams is promoted to be second in command for the

Pharaoh The production combines a lot of catchy tunes in genres like country calypso French rock nrsquo roll and

even hip-hop Itrsquos a fun and colorful show the whole family is sure to love

RUNNING TIME 1 hour 45 minutes

We have 75 students in grades 3 through 12 participating in this yearrsquos production See our cast crew and

orchestra list below If you have never been to a THS theatre production before come see this production and

The TMS STEM Club Visits Huffman Prairie

The STEM Club at Tippecanoe Middle School recently went to Huffman Prairie where the Wright Brothers

perfected the worldrsquos first airplane The students took a tour of Huffman Prairie and saw the Wright Brotherrsquos

first hanger and runway The students were also given the opportunity to explore the visitorrsquos center and try the

1905 Wright Flyer Simulator on the trip The STEM Club is supported by the STEAM Boosters and the fieldtrip

was possible by a grant through the Ohio Science Grant Consortium

Patients drive which supports the

Leukemia amp Lymphoma Society The

different opportunities that were offered

to help raise funds for this great

organization was a student vs student

dodgeball tournament a contest

between classes to win a week of eating

lunch outdoors and a fun filled

dodgeball tournament between the staff

and students just to name a few

Orchestra and You ndash By the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

Volunteers from The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra visited

Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary and presented

ldquoOrchestra and Yourdquo Students were given a virtual tour of

the backstage of the Schuster Center Every section of the

orchestra was presented and students were given the

opportunity to ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each instrument

Kindergarten Screening

One hundred and fifty-five soon-to-be Kindergarteners registered for Kindergarten screening this year Thursday

and Friday future students gathered at Nevin Coppock Elementary to be screened for next yearrsquos Kindergarten

Parents teachers and students were excited about the new chapter in their life

Safety City in Tipp City Exempted Village Schools

Safety City is a structured program for children

entering kindergarten which introduces them to basic

safety rules and help prepare young ones for the

challenges of traveling to and from school Safety

training will be demonstrated by members of Tipp

Cityrsquos public safety departments Safety City is

sponsored by Community Minded Women in

cooperation with TMCS the Tipp City Board of

Education and the police fire and emergency medical

services departments of Tipp City

Parenting and Child Development Class

Dear Parents or Caregivers

In order for the Parenting and Child Development students to have some hands-on experience with children they

will be holding a mini- preschool for children 2-5 years old on May 8th and 9

th from 800-915 am in room 112

at Tippecanoe High School

You will need to enter from the front of the building and buzz into the office We will have a student to direct you

to the correct room As a parent or caregiver we welcome you to stay and observe since it is such a short time the

little ones will be with us You are also welcome to run an errand if you would like

The day will consist of the following activities art or craft activity snack music and or game story time

The students in my classes are responsible for planning and implementing the activities but I will oversee

everything to ensure safety and proper care of the children It should be a fun experience so we are looking

forward to having you with us Please fill out the attached form and send it back with the student who contacted

you so we will know how many children will be attending

the backstage of the Schuster Center Every section of the

orchestra was presented and students were given the

opportunity to ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each instrument

and Friday future students gathered at Nevin Coppock Elementary to be screened for next yearrsquos Kindergarten

Safety City is a structured program for children

entering kindergarten which introduces them to basic

safety rules and help prepare young ones for the

challenges of traveling to and from school Safety

Parenting and Child Development Class

Dear Parents or Caregivers

In order for the Parenting and Child Development students to have some hands-on experience with children they

will be holding a mini- preschool for children 2-5 years old on May 8th and 9

th from 800-915 am in room 112

at Tippecanoe High School

You will need to enter from the front of the building and buzz into the office We will have a student to direct you

to the correct room As a parent or caregiver we welcome you to stay and observe since it is such a short time the

little ones will be with us You are also welcome to run an errand if you would like

The day will consist of the following activities art or craft activity snack music and or game story time

The students in my classes are responsible for planning and implementing the activities but I will oversee

everything to ensure safety and proper care of the children It should be a fun experience so we are looking

forward to having you with us Please fill out the attached form and send it back with the student who contacted

you so we will know how many children will be attending

The TMS STEM Club Visits Huffman Prairie

The STEM Club at Tippecanoe Middle School recently went to Huffman Prairie where the Wright Brothers

perfected the worldrsquos first airplane The students took a tour of Huffman Prairie and saw the Wright Brotherrsquos

first hanger and runway The students were also given the opportunity to explore the visitorrsquos center and try the

1905 Wright Flyer Simulator on the trip The STEM Club is supported by the STEAM Boosters and the fieldtrip

was possible by a grant through the Ohio Science Grant Consortium

TMS Dodge Ball

TMS participated in the Pennies for

Patients drive which supports the

Leukemia amp Lymphoma Society The

different opportunities that were offered

to help raise funds for this great

organization was a student vs student

dodgeball tournament a contest

between classes to win a week of eating

lunch outdoors and a fun filled

dodgeball tournament between the staff

and students just to name a few

Dear Parents or Caregivers

In order for the Parenting and Child Development students to have some hands-on experience with children they

will be holding a mini- preschool for children 2-5 years old on May 8th and 9

th from 800-915 am in room 112

at Tippecanoe High School

You will need to enter from the front of the building and buzz into the office We will have a student to direct you

to the correct room As a parent or caregiver we welcome you to stay and observe since it is such a short time the

little ones will be with us You are also welcome to run an errand if you would like

The day will consist of the following activities art or craft activity snack music and or game story time

The students in my classes are responsible for planning and implementing the activities but I will oversee

everything to ensure safety and proper care of the children It should be a fun experience so we are looking

forward to having you with us Please fill out the attached form and send it back with the student who contacted

you so we will know how many children will be attending

Orchestra and You ndash By the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

Volunteers from The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra visited

Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary and presented

ldquoOrchestra and Yourdquo Students were given a virtual tour of

the backstage of the Schuster Center Every section of the

orchestra was presented and students were given the

opportunity to ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each instrument

One hundred and fifty-five soon-to-be Kindergarteners registered for Kindergarten screening this year Thursday

and Friday future students gathered at Nevin Coppock Elementary to be screened for next yearrsquos Kindergarten

Parents teachers and students were excited about the new chapter in their life
