How To Use The Browse FeatureOn the Search Centerpage, you may searchfor clips in the SearchCenter area using theBrowse feature.

1. Begin by selecting anAcademic Discipline inthe far left column.

2. Select a Course fromthe middle column.The far right columnwill now display theindividual clip titlesavailable to you forthat Course.

3. Click on a Clip titleto display that clip’sinformation in thelower portion of theSearch Center page.

Use the Sort buttonto display clips asAlphabetical, HighestRated, Most Discussed,or Most Viewed.

How To Use The Keyword SearchOn the Search Centerpage, you may searchfor a video clip byentering a keyword orclip number in thekeyword search field.Once you have entereda keyword or clipnumber, click theSearch button to theleft of the search field.

Search results aredisplayed in a singlecolumn below theBrowse tab.

Tip: To improvesearch results whenusing KeywordSearch, type two orthree keywords thatdescribe the subjector topic you areinterested in. Forexample:

“global warming”

How To Play A Video Clip

Clip information isdisplayed in the lowerportion of the SearchCenter page.

1. Underneath the clipthumbnail, there is aPlay button.

2. Click on the Playbutton to launch thevideo player. This willimmediately beginplaying that clip.

How To Use My ClipsMy Clips allows you to saveclips to a designated folderavailable only to you. Thisarea can be accessed anytimeyou return to the site. To begin,you must first create a MyClips account.

1. On the Search Center page,click on the My Clips tab tothe right of the Browse tab.You will be prompted toenter your email addressand a password.

2. After creating an account,you may save clips toMy Clips by either clickingthe checkbox to the right ofthe clip title in the searchresults fields, or clicking theAdd To My Clips button inthe clip information area.

Access your saved clips byclicking on the My Clips tab tothe right of the Browse tab.If you are returning to theapplication after you havelogged out, you will be askedfor your email and password toaccess your My Clips folder.

How To Use URLUse URL to copy and paste avideo hyperlink (URL) into anonline course page, document,PowerPoint presentation, chatroom or faculty blog.

1. From the Search Center orthe Faculty Video Player,click on the URL button.

2. The URL for the video willbe displayed in a pop-upwindow. Click on the blueHighlight button in thepop-up window then copythe video URL to yourcomputer’s clipboard.

Paste the URL wherever youwant the hyperlink to appear.When students click on thehyperlink, their default Internetbrowser will open a StudentVideo Player and immediatelybegin playing the clip.

Tip: Use video links fromthe INTELECOM OnlineResources Network® as aneasy and effective way tointroduce video in supportof face-to-face and smartclassroom presentations.

How To Use EmbedUse the Embed featureto copy and embed avideo player andcontrols directly into anonline course page,faculty website or blog.

1. In the Search Centeror the Faculty VideoPlayer, click on theEmbed button.

2. A pop-up windowwith a choice of twovideo player sizeswill be displayed.Click on the blueHighlight button ofthe Small VideoPlayer or the LargeVideo Player to copythe embed code toyour computer’sclipboard.

Paste the embed codefrom the clipboard intothe source code of theweb page (e.g. onlinecourse page) where youwant the video player tobe displayed.

How To Use Export Clip ListThe Export Clip Listfeature allows you toprint out and save anExcel spreadsheet withclip information.

1. On the SearchCenter page, useBrowse or KeywordSearch to find clipsfor your course.

Click on the ExportClip List button tolaunch a pop-upwindow with an Excelspreadsheet thatcontains informationfor the clips you haveidentified.

How To Leave A CommentLeave a Comment allowsyou to post a comment orshare ideas about using avideo clip with other faculty.

1. In the Faculty VideoPlayer, click on thebutton labeled Leavea Comment. A pop-upwindow and commentfield will appear.

2. Type your commentin the field provided thenclick Save. Be sure toenter your name andinstitution.

All comments are viewableby the entire community ofusers on the INTELECOMOnline Resources Network®.Comments cannot be deletedonce they have been posted.

How To Rate A ClipUse the Your Ratingfeature to rate a clip youhave viewed using afive-star scale.

1. In the Your Rating sectionof the Faculty VideoPlayer, locate the five-starscale.

2. Starting from the left,click on a star to rate theclip (one star beinglowest, five stars beinghighest). Stars willautomatically behighlighted to indicateyour rating.

Ratings are averaged acrossthe range of all users thatrate each clip.

How To Use Citations View Video Tutorial

Use the Citations feature tocite your sources when you useclips from the INTELECOMOnline Resources Network®.

1. In the Search Center or theFaculty Video Player, clickthe Citations button.

2. A pop-up window with achoice of three citationformats will be displayed(APA, MLA, ChicagoManual of Style). Click onthe blue Highlight buttonof the citation format youwant to use to copy thecitation to your computer’sclipboard.

Paste the citation whereyou want it to appear –whether in support of aresearch paper ormultimedia presentation.

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy can't I find my Academic Discipline in the Search Center menu?Some academic disciplines may not yet be available in the INTELECOM Online ResourcesNetwork® or your campus does not have a license to use content in a particular AcademicDiscipline. Contact your campus administrator for more information.

Why can't I find the right clips for my course in the Search Center menu?If you have exhausted your search options and have not found clips for your course material,it may be that the specific content you are looking for is not yet available in the INTELECOMOnline Resources Network®.

What format is the video?All video is presented in Adobe Flash format (.flv) encoded at 400kbps bit rate and 480x360aspect ratio for optimum quality and network performance. Flash video is compatible withboth Mac and PC computers. H.264 video for iPhones or iPads will soon be available.

How long are the video links valid?Links to video clips are valid during the term of your subscription. For more informationabout your campus' subscription, contact your site administrator or click on the AccountProfile tab in the Search Center.

What if I forget my password to My Clips?Go to the My Clips login page and enter your email address in the Forgot Password? field. Ifyour email is found in the system, your password will be emailed to you.

How many My Clips accounts can I create?You may create as many different accounts as you like, even with the same email address.However, we recommend you create only one My Clips account.

How do I contact INTELECOM Technical Support?Send an email to [email protected] or call (626) 796-7300, M-F, 9am – 5pm PST.Toll free (800) 576-2988.

Can I share my username or password with others?Under no circumstances may usernames or passwords be shared with others, except aspermitted under the terms of the license agreement for your campus. Any unauthorizeddistribution or dissemination of usernames or passwords could result in the termination ofyour subscription to the INTELECOM Online Resources Network®. For questions about yourcampus' subscription, contact your site administrator.

Can I forward video links to others or post them on the Internet?Video hyperlinks may not be forwarded to others, except as permitted under the terms of thelicense agreement for your campus. Any unauthorized distribution or dissemination of videolinks could result in the termination of your subscription to the INTELECOM Online ResourcesNetwork®. Can I search for content from within Blackboard?Institutions that use Blackboard 8, 9, or 9.1 can download a free Building Block fromwww.blackboard.com/Support/Extensions.aspx along with an Administrator's and User'sGuide. The Building Block allows users to conduct a keyword search of the INTELECOMOnline Resources Network® and embed video clips seamlessly into online course pages fromwithin the Blackboard learning environment. You must have a valid subscription to theINTELECOM Online Resources Network® to access and view the video clips.

Do the video clips work with SoftChalk?Institutions that use SoftChalk LessonBuilder 5 or 6 can now conduct an integrated mediasearch of the INTELECOM Online Resources Network® using the Media Search tool inLessonBuilder. This integration allows instructors to create media-rich web pages using videofrom the INTELECOM Online Resources Network® without leaving the LessonBuilder authoringenvironment. You must have a valid subscription to the INTELECOM Online ResourcesNetwork® to access and view the video clips.

Do you have MARC records for the video clips?There are no MARC records for the video clips as these are generally not required forstreaming video. Institutions that require MARC records may download and modifymetadata for the video clips as an Excel spreadsheet using the EXPORT CLIP LIST featurein the Search Center. MARC records in RDA format will soon be available.

Do you have transcripts for the video clips?Transcripts for the video clips are not available at this time.

Can the video titles be added to an online card catalog system?Video clips can be added to an online card catalog system using the clip metadata or MARCrecords and the clip URL to create card catalog entries. If the card catalog is accessible outsideof the purchasing institution (public access), the URLs must be authenticated to preventunauthorized access.

Can I upload learning objects that include your video clips to our statewide repository?Video clips may be used by authorized users on your campus only and may not be distributedseparately, or as part of learning objects, to other than authorized users on your campus.

What authentication options are supported?The INTELECOM Online Resources Network® supports IP and proxy server authentication.Your institution is provided a specific URL that is authenticated to the IP ranges for yourinstitution or to the IP address of a proxy server (e.g. EzProxy).
