HANDS & HEARTS TIME! It is Hands & Hearts time again! You will want to reserve Wednesday, April 3 on your calendar as our community service day. Parents and grandparents are welcome to volunteer alongside our students as we focus on helping the Salvation Army, The Arc, and Rush Homes. This day also serves as our annual school-wide fundraiser. Sponsorship packets were sent home last week with the youngest child in your family. We appreciate you completing and returning your letters by Friday, March 1. Hands & Hearts has been accepted as a volunteer project by Disney World this year. We have the opportunity to give away 20 tickets to the theme park and need your help to do so. Would you please visit https://www.allforgood.org/projects/RJK2LX8X and sign up as a volunteer for our Hands & Hearts project? Additionally, during this season of the year dozens of our students from grades 1 through 12 produced art works in paint, pen and ink, charcoal, clay and video formats. Their work remains on display for several more days if you missed it. This is the time of year when our students really begin to shine. Although they are surely feeling the grind of school with winter dragging on, the academic challenges are both clear and present. They are also paying off. The annual Art & Science Fair held last Friday evening is a great example of how our students excel.

JV & VARSITY WINTER ATHLETIC AWARDS see you all on March 7 at 7pm. for our JV and Varsity awards night!

FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICESo it is Tax Season! Most of you probably groan when you think about that. I do too. But now that your tax returns are fresh on your mind, answer two questions for me:

1. Did you have state tax withheld from your paycheck in 2018?2. Are you getting a refund of the entire amount that was withheld or is the state keeping some of what was withheld from your pay?

If the state is keeping ANY of what was withheld, that means you had a tax bill and paid state tax in Virginia in 2018. What if you could get that tax bill down to zero and get all of your withheld state tax back, would you be interested? It would be nice to get a bigger refund next year, wouldn’t it? That’s exactly what can happen.

Director of Finance, Linda Hackenbracht or Development Director, Dayna Renalds can explain how to see this change your taxes next year by giving to the New Covenant Scholarship Foundation.

If you would like more information on this valuable program email Linda or Dayna [email protected]@newcovenantschools.org

E T C E T E R A EVERYONE

Celtic EvensongYou are cordially invited to a Celtic Evensong service in the Marie MacDonald Chapel on Sunday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. The service begins at 6:30 pm and features Irish musical selections. Among the participating musicians are adjunct instructor, Jessica Phaup on the violin and faculty member Chelsea Barnwell on the harp. Marion Patterson will play violin and her husband, Tim will feature Irish bagpipes. Our headmaster, John Heaton will play cello with musicians from All Saints Church. His wife, Heidi, joins on the flute. What better way to celebrate the ministry of St. Patrick than this service of reflection, readings and beautiful music. We hope you will join us.
