The cloister garden or ‘Garth’ would have

provided herbs for medicines and cooking.

The Refectory

The Refectory was originally a 13th century

monk’s dining hall and several Kings of England

have eaten in this room, including Edward I and

Richard II.

The monks took all their meals here in silence.

Now a bustling restaurant, we are well equipped

for hosting receptions and dinners all year round.

The GarthFOR DRINKS RECEPTIONS

The Monastic cloister garden that would have been

used to grow plants and herbs for both culinary and

medicinal purposes.

The pond was originally a holding pond for fish as this

was a very important part of the monastic diet.

The Garth would also have been a place of meditation.

The Consistory CourtBY SPECIAL REQUEST

The Consistory Court is truly distinctive - it is

the only old church court in the country.

The woodwork dates from the late 16th century

and was moved to its present location in 1636.

The court dealt with the legal work of the

diocese, including passing judgement on

the people who failed to attend church or

misbehaved during services.

A rare space for an unusual event.
