It is with great joy that I send you season’s greetings. This has a very challenging year for all of us. The state of the nation’s economy is also affecting the way we do our regular operation here at Rosemont. We are experiencing fiscal difficulty too. However, December is here and we are preparing for a wonderful Winter Program here at Rosemont Avenue School. Our students are working diligently on reading, math and social science. The primary grades (1-3) are learning how to read at a fast rate and teachers are seeing some tremendous results. Similarly, the upper grade students (3-5) are exploring and mastering new math and Open Court concepts/skills. Our staff is thankful that we have been permitted to be of service to your child. We have helped students learn how to learn and learn how to live. This is the time of the year for rejoicing and for rededication. Now is the time to reflect on our blessings and to recharge our spirits. Happy Holidays! Here are some ideas for stimulating your child’s mind during our winter vacation: After decorating for the holidays, ask your child to count the number of red ornaments, green ornaments, and other colors. You could ask questions, such as, “How many more green ornaments are there than blue ornaments?” or, “How many red ornaments and green ornaments are there altogether?” Buying holiday gifts and treats offer many opportunities to use math. Children can use a calculator to add up the cost of items and then see if they have enough money to purchase what they want. If they have a set amount to spend, you can then ask them if they have enough, how much change would they get back, or how much more money do they need.
