    This part of the report is.primarily intended as a data supplement.Interpretation of the physical and chemical data presented here and itsrelation to parallel biological studies are reported in the precedingpapers. Hopefully, this data may also be found useful to researchersoutside our study group.

    Tables in Sections 3 and 5 show some physical and chemicalcharacteristics of water and sediments collected in the Northwest Terri-tories and Yukon during 1971-74. Exact locations of sampling stationswere reported by Brunskill et al. (1973; Vol. II, Appendix I). Thefigures in Section 3 show seasonal variations in concentration for severalelements and some physical parameters, measured for a number of lakes andrivers. Similar data collected early in the study was reported inBrunskill et: al, (1973, Vol. II, Appendix IX). Ranges of daily rates oftransport for elements in both the aqueous and particulate phase measuredduring 1971~74 are tabulated in Section 4. As well, estimates of annualrates of transport previously not published are reported in Section 4.

    2. METHODS

    Physical 'and chemical methods used in this study were describedpreviously by Brunskill et al. (1973; Vol. I and Vol. II, Appendix VII).Further useful information, especially concerning sensitivity and precisionof these methods is reported by Stainton et al . (1974), Wagemann (1973;1975), and Campbell and Elliott (1975).

    The method of computation of rates of transport of a given elementor parameter (Section 4) was slightly different from that reported byBrunskill et al., (1973; Vol. II, Appendix VII). Daily rates of transportwere calculated by taking the product of a measured concentration andthe corresponding measured daily discharge. This discharge was usuallyobtained from Water Survey of Canada (Davies, 1973; 1974). Ranges ofdaily rates of transport are the smallest and largest of these productsobtained during the study period. Monthly rates of transport werecalculated by taking the product of the mean of the concentrations measuredduring the month and total monthly discharge. Annual rates of transportwere obtained by summing monthly rates of transport. For months duringwhich no concentration was measured, a seasonal mean concentration wasgenerally applied. Winter mean concentrations were calculated for theperiod November through April and summer means for the period May toOctober.
