Your New Union ExecutiveElection Results! Fee Fighters! Two weeks ago, Vice Chancellors from around the country caused outrage when they suggested that undergraduates should be paying between £4000 and £20,000 a year to study at University. UEA’s Vice Chancellor feels that it’s not appropriate to take a view on the matter before the Government reviews the current system later this year.
Potentially, students could be facing more debt than ever before if these new fees are brought in, and we now need every student to get involved and put pressure on local MPs to make sure that student debt doesn’t soar through the roof.
If you’re keen to get involved, check out www.ueastudent.com/fees.

On Wednesday 11th March, the Union of UEA Students and our sports clubs welcomed our rivals from Essex onto campus for a day of competition and friendly banter.
In total there were 43 points up for grabs as every Union club played their Essex opponents, hoping to help our side to lift the coveted Derby Day Champions Cup. This year was the first outing of the Union clubs’ new mascot, cleverly named ‘sq-UEA-k’ the Lion by some bright spark from Men’s Hockey. Essex were clearly quite jealous of our mascot, and will be introducing their own next year.
The bunting was blowing and the banners were hung as we awaited a sporting spectacular
…and we weren’t disappointed. Both sides deserve praise for the
level of sport played, and the manner in which everyone conducted themselves.
The final score on the day was 29-14 to UEA (despite what one might read in Concrete!), which meant that we added to our tally
of destruction against Essex over the years. The overall score now lies at 7-2 to UEA, having dominated our East Anglian rivals since the tournament’s creation in 2001.
Martin Jopp, Union Finance Officer said: “It was an amazing occasion and our sportsmen and women did us proud! I can’t wait until next year when we travel to Essex to defend our cup.”
Oh UEA is wonderful…
