SEASON AND CROP COVERAGE (RABI 2017-18 SEASON)

1. WEATHER CONDITIONS

1.1. South-West Monsoon-2017: The South-West Monsoon is crucial for the Agriculture sector. The Meteorological

Department, (IMD) has announced that, the South-west Monsoon has arrived over Kerala on 30-5-2017. In Andhra Pradesh,

Monsoon arrived on June 7th

over Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and it has further advanced into remaining parts of

Andhra Pradesh on June 14. South west monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

from 17-10-2017 to 25-10-2017 and onset of North East Monsoon in the state is on 27-10-2017.

Overall, the average rainfall received in Andhra Pradesh from 1-6-2017 to 03.01.2018 is recorded as 744.7 mm as

against the Normal as on date of 855.4 mm showing by Normal -13 per cent. During South-West Monsoon period Normal

rainfall received in North Coastal (-1.3%), South-Coastal (7.2%), and in Rayalaseema (13.4%).

NORTH EAST MONSOON: North East Monsoon onset in the state is on 27-10-2017. The average rainfall received from

1.10.2017 to 31.12.2017 is recorded as 177.5mm as against the Normal as on date 296.0 mm as Status of deficient -40 per cent. 1.2. District wise Rainfall: The district wise rainfall from 1.6.2017 to 03.01.2018 is presented in Annexure-I.

IV. AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS:

Paddy transplantations are under progress. Bengalgram is at flowering to pod formation and maturity stage. Jowar, Bajra and Ragi crops are at vegetative stage. Maize is at vegetative to tasseling stage. Redgram, Greengram, Blackgram, Horsegram are at vegetative to flowering stage. Groundnut and Sesamum are at vegetative to flowering stage. Tobacco and Chillies are at vegetative stage.

Redgram crop is at pod formation to pod maturity and harvesting stage. Pickings are under

progress in Cotton crop. Sugarcane is at cane formation to harvesting stage.

V. PESTS AND DISEASES:

There is no outbreak of pests and diseases on Rabi crops and however, the District Joint Directors of

Agriculture are instructed to keep close watch on Kharif standing and Rabi crops and take timely action to control

pests & diseases.
