Auto industry is still unorganized However the taxi industry has reached optimum levels of modernization in Dehradun. The preferences of the customers is shifting from Auto to vikram and Local Taxis . In spite of many initiatives by the State authorities nothing concrete could be done . If the auto rickshaws lose their presence ,it would result in higher rates of unemployment and also eradicate an affordable means of transport for the middle class.

6. 6. Initiatives taken by the Honble State Authorities of Uttarakhand State Authorities of Uttarakhand tried to install a subsidized meter on all the auto rickshaws. However this could not be implemented due to the non acceptance by the drivers. The State Authorities also tried to introduce prepaid auto services at selected locations which also couldnt turn successful.
7. 7. Views Shared by the Auto Commuters in Dehradun Finding an Auto in many of the localities of Dehradun is really challenging. Customer has to bargain hard with auto drivers before hiring an auto. Lack of faith in auto drivers because of their behavior towards their customers. The Elderly , Female and children avoid to hire an auto if they are not occupied by someone. Hassles are even experienced at the drop location as well . Tourism Industry is also affected as a very bad image of the city is imparted to them due to non-courteous drivers.

This could result in an ease of traffic and parking in the roads. It has also been observed in the cities where they have deployed such models to have reduced emissions of pollution Thus this initiative turns out to be eco friendly and cost effective.
