History instructor Thomas DePalma has prepared a test-item file for the college textbook, The American

Journey-a History of the UnindSrarrs. Pubisher Prentice-Hall expects the book to be available this fall.

Marina'Wray, IS/US, has completed Halper's Computer Information Systems-Microcomputers in Business certificate program.

In April, Pat Best, Patricia Mulcrone and Kathryn Powell, all of AED, will be presenters at the Connections '97 State

Conference. The group was invited to the conference to describe their success using the tWork Force On-Line System and

strategies that link ESL. AED and general education development students to jobs and careers.

Kate Kniest, Joni Rothblum and Pat Onl-eary were selected recipients of the Connections 2000 Award and they, too, have

been invited to present rheir proiecr at the Connections'97 State Conference. Theywill describe the initiation, refinementand ongoing implementation oF Harper studenrs' learning experience when partnering with the Head Start program.

Music Academy coordinator Mark l\{rozinski gave a presentation to the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association

entitled Parents: Enemies orAllies?The presentation discussed the parent-teacher relationship.

Judy Thorson, ADM SER, has been appointed by the Central Association of College and University Business Officers to the

Host Committee. This committee is responsible for overseeing all functior-rs for the organization.

Mark Clancy, ADM OUTR, served as a iudge for the Chicago Tibune's 12th annual Illinois High School All-State Academic

Team competition.

Horper College Refiree News A general meeting of the Harper College Annuirants Association (HCAA) will be held

on April ll,1997 at 1:00 pm in Building E at Harper College. This special program, lor retirees or those about to retire in a

few years, will focus on the State Universiry and Colleges Retiremer-rt System (SURS), Social Securiry, and Medicare.

Representatives of SURS, Social Security and Personnel will be on hand to answer questions. Become a member of the HCAAby sending a $20 check made out to Harper College Annuitants Association and the following form. Remember, you do nothave to be retired to become a member. If you are 55 years of age and contribute to SURS, you can join HCAA now!
