2.0 Industrial Profile of the District

2.1 Large and Medium Scale Industries

Total 73 large and medium industries are working in the district. The potential

in the district has been identified in the sectors such as mineral base ceramic

sanitaryware, tiles, refractory and other products, metal base foundries,

machine tools, engine oil and its parts, cotton textile, ginning industry, cement

and electrical industries. The Taluka wise numbers of large & medium

industries is given in Table 2.1

2.2 Macro, Small and Medium Scale Industry Development

Rajkot has 643 Macro, 256 SSI and 2 Medium Industries. As per the industrial

statistics of 2006-07, there were 901 units established in the district with

investment of 35584.00 lacs in plant and machinery and employing about

12774 workers.

It can be observed that Mineral base Macro and SSI units have larger share in

the district. These units are generally spread in Morbi, Thangadh and

Wankaner. Other major industry group of the district is Metal, Non ferrous

items, Machinery and oil engines and its parts. These industries spread in

Rajkot City and surrounding areas. The details of Macro, SSI and Medium

scale units are given in Table 2.2. The distribution of SSI units by industry

type is given in Table 2.3. Industry Clusters identified in the district are given

in Table 2.4.

3.2 Availability of Students

There were 2147 students appeared in 12th science and 23105 students

appeared in 12th General Stream examinations. Out of these 74.93% students

and 82.68% students passed in 12th examinations.

4.0 Bhaktinagar-Rajkot Profile

Present Status of ITIs

In Rajkot there are three engineering and three polytechnic colleges. The detail

is presented in Table 3.1 and Table 3.2. There are total 1497 seats in ITI in

Rajkot Centre. In Rajkot, there are two Govt, 8 self finance and two Centres

for Excellence ITIs. The name, address and courses run by ITI are given in

Table 3.3, Table 3.4, Table 3.7 and Annexure 1.

5.0 Industrial Scenario of Bhaktinagar-Rajkot and Surrounding Areas

Riding on a high export demand, Rajkot’s machine tools industry is eyeing a

turnover of Rs 1,200 crore by 2010. The industry with a turnover of Rs 700

crore is growing at a steady 20 per cent y-o-y and is poised to achieve the Rs

1200 crore mark by the year 2010, industry sources said. There are around 500

machine tool manufacturing units in the Rajkot GIDC of which six units are

manufacturing CNC machines. According to sources, around 40 per cent of

the machines manufactured in the Rajkot GIDC are sold in the export market.

Rajkot is famous for its mirror-work, patchwork, beadwork, jewellery market,

silk embroidery and Watch Parts. The city hosts several of small scale

manufacturing industries, which have, grown as Major Export houses in

Gujarat. Some of the industrial products that Rajkot is popular for:

Rajkot is famous for its Gold purity. It has one of the largest Gold Market

called 'Soni-Bazar'. Today, Gold jwellery exports from Rajkot have reached a

milestone and jwellery from Rajkot is major demand across all over India. In

coming years multiple Special zones are going to setup at outskirts of Rajkot

city which includes sectors like Automotive, IT, Castings etc.

There are around 5 to 7 Industrial Associations. Out of this, Rajkot Engg.

Association is most efficient and actively involved in development activities

for industry.

7.0 Other Infrastructures Availability

Bhaktinagar GIDC is in the heart of Rajkot city. Rajkot is district headquarters

and it is well connected with rail and road. Rajkot is prominent railway

junction of Ahmedabad-Veraval and Porbander railway-line. It is also

connected by road to Ahmedabad-Veraval, Jamnagar and Porbander Highway.

All other infrastructure facilities like transportation and communication are

available.

8.0 Need for ITI Extension Centres

It can be observed from the industrial profile of the district that there is

concentrated growth of engineering based industries. It has been learnt that

there is a need for industry-specific manpower training in the centers like

Bhaktinagar due to concentration of Foundry, Oil Engine, Machine Tools,

Automobile Parts and Jwellery related industries in an around Rajkot City.

9.0 Selection of ITI Extension Centre

General

i) GIDC Estate – Bhaktinagar-Rajkot

9.1 Bhaktinagar-Rajkot Centre

Bhaktinagar-Rajkot GIDC estate is well developed. There are 700 SSI units in an around the estate. Bhaktinagar estate is in heart of Rajkot City. Majority of oil engine, engineering and machine tools units are in the

estate and surrounding. Local GIDC estate Association is keen to have such centre in the estate

and willing to give full support to provide technical and plant training. PP plot/Land is available in the estate with GIDC and building with

Association. There is one ITI (Mahila ITI) in Bhaktinagar. In view of Associations, ITI and leading Industry Bhaktinagar is an ideal

location for the ITI extension Centre.

9.2 Reason for Selection of Centres

1) It is well developed city of Saurashtra region2) Major industrial clusters of engineering products.3) Centre location is well connected with rail, road, transportation,

communications and other facilities. 4) Associations are active in development of industry in Rajkot and

surrounding areas. 5) Leading engineering units are willing to provide technical training
