Today I have an opportunity to speak about the national poet of Bashkortostan Rami Garipov. He was born in the village of Arkaul of the Salavatsky district in 1932. He studied in Ufa at the school № 9. Nowadays it is the Bashkir Republican Grammar Boarding School №1 named after Rami Garipov. All his works were devoted to his native land, nature and

language. I want to recite his remarkable poem about the greatness of Mother Tongue

Page 4: Rami Garipov Sergei Yesenin William Shakespeare The literary hour

«The Mother Tongue»I gather some pearly honeyLike a bee in souls of my folk?And from these gathered lively pearlsI make some fragrant honeycomb.

That is why I value my tongue:It isn't worse than other one,It is strong and rich and tender,You can‘t help loving your mother tongue.

My mother tongue's my truthful tongue,To honor it's ready your son.Unless you love it,you can haveNeither a country nor a tongue.

My mother tongue is poet's tongue,It strengthens and unites our folk.You won't be a son of your landUnless you love your tongue and folk.

Халҡым теле минең — хаҡлыҡ теле, Унан башҡа минең илем юҡ;

Shall I compare them to a summer's day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all too short a date;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed:

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,

Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st.

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to them.
