Employees will be advised of the benefits of sensible driving practices and potential fuel savings by driving at economical speeds. Recycling of packaging materials All packaging materials, particularly paper and cardboard, are taken to a council tip where full recycling facilities exist. The partnership aims to minimise the number of “test plots” which it produces. Where these are produced, they also will be taken to a recycling depot. Paper is not put in the standard dustbins where no recycling exists. Minimising waste The company aims wherever possible to minimise waste. This is achieved by some “in-house” recycling of used paper and cardboard packaging by re-use. We also re-cycle printer cartridges, batteries, plastic and tin cans. Efficient use of water and energy The company is now only using energy efficient light bulbs and strip-lights. Night storage heaters are used throughout the office, which primarily use electricity during the night. Electricity meters are set to run on Economy Seven timers. Monitoring of the radiators is undertaken to minimise the use of electric fan heaters. The company aims to be economical in its use of water – bottled water is supplied throughout the year for all staff for drinking purposes. Re-chargeable batteries are used for all the field equipment wherever possible Use of bio-degradable chemicals The partnership only uses bio-degradable spray paint All employees are instructed to be economical in their use of spray paint at all times. Use of timber from sustainable (managed) forests Where possible the partnership ensures that its timber setting out pegs are from a sustainable source. We have recently changed suppliers in order to purchase smaller pegs in order to be more economical in our use of timber in this respect. Procedures to minimise noise disturbance to neighbours The partnership operates a neighbour friendly policy and puts notices in prominent positions to remind staff to be considerate, particularly first thing in the morning.
